The most immature mature team
How could such a mature team be so immature at all the wrong moments?
I thought this would be the year without drama given our veteran corps. OK, we didn’t have a murderer on our team (hopefully this doesn’t become the new standard other teams are judged by)
Kennedy has a locker room incident and breaks his hand
Two players have to be separated on the bench during a tournament game
Your most veteran player still impulsively makes the same mistakes
You have a dead ball physical technical in the tournament game
You throw a water bottle onto the court
The offense still appears broken outside of Davis.
Next season will be telling on a lot of levels.
Davis won’t be here— will we revert back to a broken offense?
We bring in freshmen, who typically are less disciplined than upperclassman. Mikey Williams has a reputation as a hothead (see the YouTube video of him stepping on an opponent’s arm)
I still have some concerns for sure

Not sure why this triple posted
I can hear the refrain from people who only watched our game last night— same old Memphis, same old Penny.

RE: The most immature mature team
I think we had a number of guys who transferred here for “this moment” & the moment was just too big. They stood around on offense… they made assignments mistakes on defense… they made dumb passes they’d never make in the regular season… & then they fought amongst each other which we never saw this season. This should have been a relatively easy win, yet FAU is a team that won 30+ games & they found a way to fall into a win that we didn’t appear ready to take . We should be playing on Sunday but instead we lost another game at the wire. I have no doubt, had we won last night, this team would have settled in and made a deep run, & thats why this one hurts so much.

It is all over twitter. Btw he did not throw the water bottle on the court, or at an official as many are reposting and criticizing him for. Glad to see him let it out.
Penny will get the players in here and compete, but last night was a complete meltdown and huge opportunity squandered. Seems like there was something more going on with this team than we know about at this time.
No way we should have lost last night and a lot of "what ifs" for all to ponder for a long time. Feeling is unfortunately eerily too familiar for lifelong Tiger fans. Hopefully Penny and our program can rebound from this.
Penny is definitely still trending upward imo, but the loss did hurt his own stock last night. A win or two and this program was ready to take off. Lots of ammunition out there now for those with an ax to grind that apparently enjoy attacking him for whatever reason.

Freshman can be really good when surrounded by experienced upperclassmen leadership.
Will the Tigers have any real leadership on the court next year or is it going to be pretty much a complete turnover of the roster?

Did any of you not see almost the entire team attempting to get a timeout called with 5.5 seconds on the clock and we would have had the ball but the stupid refs. would not give it to us and FAU was given the ball and got the last shot. We got screwed once again by the officials.

Two plays that haunted me all night and still haunted me this morning. First, McCadden’s stupid technical foul. Cost us possession of the ball and 2 points. Second, Davis’s careless pass directly to FAU with less than 11 seconds to go in the game.
Disappointing end to a fun season.
Go Tigers!

You are missing the point here. Lots of things led up to the no TO call by the ref.
Deandre getting 4th foul which effectively took him out of the game for 10 minutes. Stupid tech called on McFadden. Players arguing on the bench. KD making turnover with 1 point lead, with 1 point lead, and 10 seconds on the clock. These were all senior screw ups.
All year long the team played with low basketball IQ. Stupid turnovers/fouls at wrong time. Is this reflection on type of players attracted to Memphis. Or coaching. Likely combination of both. Historically Memphis kids, while being super talented, have fit this mold. Great players but low basketball IQ. It won’t ever change. We start over next year. Expect the same.

Davis looked like a middle school player on that one. Stopped his dribble for no reason, jumped to make the pass and tried to throw it across court laterally. Just bad

Yep
Mccadden is dumber than dirt. You don’t get baited into that in any game, much less an NCAA tournament. Just stupid. He’s had a nice game or 2 here and there, but him and Franklin both are mid major talent that a program like Memphis didn’t need to waste a scholarship on. I get it that the ncaa stuff was hanging over their heads, and had LQ and Akot been here, neither of those 2 would have been. It is what it is.
The Dandridge/ Davis thing doesn’t bother me all that much. Might have been a bad look but teammates bicker all the time and occasionally it turns physical. It’s just that 95% of the time it isn’t seen by fans because it’s in a locker room or at practice.
Still no idea wtf Davis was doing on that pass. If we’re about to get a 10 sec violation, call a timeout. But then again, there’s no guarantee one will be granted even when looking right at the official and gesturing for one. That’s evident from last night.
Shttty way to end the season against a lesser team. Get some more dawgs in the portal, add to a top 5 class, tell the duds on this roster (kao, Dandridge, lawsons) to hit the road and lastly Penny and staff need to start coaching every game in Kill Mode. Enough with these crap teams hanging around and having 1 or 2 bite you (UCF, Tulane, Seton Hall, FAU). Let’s get back to blowing teams off the court

He was hurt. Your mind is trained to be two or three steps ahead of where he was once he took off and when that didnt happen you panic. It would be like a player used to playing slower teams and then suddenly getting full court pressure from a much faster team. Mental shock.

Was it 11 seconds to go? Someone else said 14 seconds. I would like to see that again to see just how long we were on the wrong side of the court.

Davis still had :04 to get across half court when he threw the ball away. Could’ve just thrown ahead to Jr who was wide open.

You couldn't put it best.
You summarized what happened to this team last night.. I mentioned about it in another thread.. It's like some of them got "stage fright" at the biggest moment of their careers.
I'll be honest.. I woke up this morning and it still hurts.

I knew as soon as the Purdue lost we probably wouldn’t win. We’ve never been given such a gift in the tourney or taken advantage of it. Williams commits stupid fouls. Lomax makes mistakes. Davis gets injured or not. Dandridge runs the fooor like a slug. Dumb mistakes. Oh, refs make mistakes as well.
Roll it altogether and it was the season in one game.

McCadden was one of the first transfers to sign. McCadden sighed before Akot, and before LQ left. Had LQ or Akot stayed, Franklin would not be here, but McCadden would be on the team, albeit in a lesser role.

Lomax, Dandridge, and Williams played well tonight. And I have been critical of both Lomax and Dandridge this season. Davis, McCadden, and Lawson had an off night. Not having Kennedy’s shooting ability could have also made a difference. It’s still shocking to lose to FAU after beating the #1 team less than a week ago and playing so well as a team at that time.
