RE: Thank you Penny
Penny did an excellent job with much less talent than his previous teams. He gets his players to play hard every time out. We are very fortunate to have him as our coach.
We have some great talent coming in next year and he’ll get some very good transfers and gel them together. Looking forward to next season!!

RE: Thank you Penny
He’s won one tournament game in his time here.
I hope he succeeds, but every season has been plagued by drama of some sort. He also brought on an NCAA investigation whose shadow may have cost us a Big XII spot
People have this mindset that our program would be nothing without Penny when his results have been really within the norm for most of our coaches.
I’m just at a loss for why a lot of our fans think he hung the moon

I also don’t get the line of reasoning that he’s basically doing charity work for us. He’s making fairly good money and is able to promote his brand (free advertising and would otherwise just be another retired NBA star’s brand). It’s far from a one-sided business relationship

I don’t know any Tiger fans that act like Penny hung the moon. That comment is absurd.
What drama did we have this year? We had injuries to deal with all season but there wasn’t drama. Frankly, every coach has to deal with their players, attitude issues, playing time, chemistry problems, going to class, off the court problems.
To me, you say you hope Penny succeeds, but you probably really don’t want that because then you’re stuck with a coach you don’t like.

The fear that I had was that my apathy for losses or wins was a sign that I would never care about Tiger basketball the same again.
Thanks to you I know that I care about and love Tiger basketball as much as I ever have. Because this loss really stinks. But it means so much knowing that you are the leader of our Tigers and that you bleed blue, and that you are here to coach our beloved Tigers because you love them just as much as I do.
Please don’t give up. Please keep going. The best is yet to come. We don’t love Tiger basketball because of how easy things come. We love Tiger basketball because of how hard things come. And when we have success, we know we earned it.
I heard a statement the other day that really struck a chord with me. It’s hard to be upset when you are busy being thankful. I’m thankful for the season we’ve had and I’m thankful for Penny.
This game immediately reminded me of the Western Kentucky game.

I really do hope he succeeds. It’s in the best interest of our athletic program that he succeeds and that’s enough for me
All the drama came at the wrong time. A player breaks his hand in a locker room incident (a player that basically was to replace LQ after Penny ran him off). Two players get into a very public altercation during a tournament game. He throws a water bottle on the court. All of that almost completely erases the rest of the year’s relative lack of public drama
Maybe in itself it isn’t eye brow raising, but it casts doubt that he’s grown from the Rick Barnes feud and the Calkins tirade.
And if you don’t think there are fans who will bend over backwards to make excuses rather than place any blame on Penny, you’re not a member of the Facebook group.

I guess you missed the previous 2 coaches. Or the years before Cal. Or the years before Dana. Or the years before Gene. Check those records and get back to me. And with the decline of the city he’s even more important now that he would have been in the past. Now does he do some things I disagree with ? Of course. But most of it is due to loyalty to kids he’s basically coached since junior high. And yes he’s giving us a discount. You get a coach like a Chris Beard or anyone else and they would be out of here with the first P5 offer.

More nonsense. It’s Penny’s fault that Kennedy hits the wall and breaks his hand? Get real man. What you want to do is place everything at his feet. Do you give him credit for being the only coach in the history of coaches at Memphis who beat a #1 ranked team? Probably not. The water bottle toss across the court is drama? Lmao. He has one technical in five years. And he’s full of drama. Dude you can’t be taken seriously here. You have a beef with Penny being the coach. But you won’t admit that.
