He was thrown out at the plate. He was waived all the way. Bad decision.

LHP now in for UAB-- can we please PH for Rosengard now. Anyone. Duffield. Salazar. Smith. We have an opportunity to get a run. But no-- Rosengard inexplicably stays in the game, grounds out, as does West. Is the coaching staff asleep. For all of Jose's righty-lefty maneuverings, WTH is he having Rosengard bat against a LHP with a runner in scoring position and one out?

Linskey works around a walk for an effective B6. 3-1 going to T7.

Add Gallo to guys in a deep slump. How do you go from the hottest hitter on the team to a guy who suddenly can't make contact? I think he's struck out 5 times now in the past 2 games. Again, do we have a hitting coach?

We're not going to win many 3-1 games this year with our relative lack of pitching depth. Hope we can do that today.

Really good pitching today, not many walks.

Linskey back out for B7. One pitch, one out on 6-3. 2nd hitter fouling off 0-2 pitches, but finally flies out to RF.

Linskey Ks the cleanup hitter for a 1-2-3 B7.

RE: Baseball vs UAB - Game 1
Holderbach gets leadoff walk. Jose asks Becker to bunt (???) and, of course, he pops it up for an out. First of all, with a 3-1 lead, why are you bunting in that situation. Second, Becker can't bunt, so why ask him to try to get one down?

No surprise, they walk Walsh to put runners on 1B and 2B, with one out. Once again, it's Manny or bust (unless Jose finally puts in some PHs).

An E-4 scores a run. Runners on the corners with one out. PLEASE PH for Rosengard! With Walsh on 3B, he scores on almost anything save for a hit back to the pitcher. Shocker-- Rosengard actually singles. 5-1. Runners on 1B and 2B, one out. New RHP now in. Why not put Reidel in here to hit for West (who is 0-the year)? But, of course not. Shocker again-- West singles and with the help of the 2nd error in the inning by the 2B, we score again. 6-1. Runners on 1B and 2B, one out. Royo struck out. Can Gallo break out of his 5-game funk? No, struck out for his 3rd time tonight and 6 time in the last two games.

6-1 heading to B8. Probably Linskey's last inning. Please have someone warming in the pen just in case he hits the wall. Don't wait until he put 3 guys on base.

UAB's only recorded out this inning was that sac bunt. 5-1 Rice.

I have a sense of relief whenever an opponent sac bunts against a team I am rooting for. Why give away outs to bad teams like UAB?

Luckily, an error and Rosengard single makes it 5-1 anyway

E4 plated the 4th run for the Owls. RBI single to LF by Rosengard makes it 5-1. Pitching change for UAB. Owls at 1st and 2nd with 1 out.

West single to RF and now Janish holds the runner at 3rd, but E4 on the throw in scores Garza. 6-1

Royo Ks looking. 2 outs.

Gallo Ks swinging to end the inning.

Linskey back out for B8.

Count goes full on 1st hitter on a couple of close calls and batter finally draws leadoff walk. Bang out to talk with Linskey after ball 1 on 2nd batter.

Whatever Bang said worked. K swinging. 1 out.

Linskey walks the next batter and then gets another K swinging. 2 on. 2 outs.

K looking! On to the 9th. 6-1 Owls!

Holderbach lines 1 out single up the middle (despite what Sidearm sports says). FC for 2nd out.

Walsh rbi triple makes it 7-1. Walsh has a HR, triple and double tonight and 4 rbi.

Garza with rbi single, his 3rd of the game, makes it 8-1.

Rosengard bunting with 2 outs in 8-1 game? WTH? And then Ks. 8-1 going to B9.

Cienfuegos in to pitch the 9th.

F9 for out 1.

1-3 for out 2.

F9 ends it.

Solid effort by the Owls tonight.

Really nice effort tonight, we need to build on this tomorrow and come up with another dominant effort instead of playing paddycake with an inferior team.

Good job Rice

Owls need to find a way to break their string of playing horrible game 2s in weekend series. Tomorrow would be a great time to start and build on a solid start to this series.

RE: Baseball vs UAB - Game 1
Nice outing by Linskey. Good to see Manny break out of his slump with 3 hits. Garibay with a couple hard hits. And why anyone would pitch to Walsh at this point is a mystery. He's on fire right now. Finally living up to his Top 100 prospect potential.

We get a LHP going against us tomorrow. Can we please get Smith in the lineup as DH or C (with Manny as DH). I'd also play Salazar instead of Rosengard. Move Gallo toward the bottom of the lineup until he gets out of his current funk.

Hoping McCracken gets the start tomorrow, and then Long on Sunday. I'd also have Brogdon start mid-weeks even if he can only go 2 - 3 innings at this point.
