Was there too, with a buddy and his son. Buddy took me a pix of the final scoreboard, which I still have somewhere. Weather was gorgeous. Crowd was ecstatic. Terrific game and day!

Didn't go to a lot of games back then but was there for that one. One of best in person games

From what you just said reminds me of being in HS in the mid 80's watching the college gane of the week where it seemed that every game was under a big, bright sun, a cloudless, blue sky on a brisk autumn day. The fanfare and pageantry on full display among the schools colors with me thinking to myself that I cannot wait to experience that at NIU.
I think we can count on our fingers how many actual home were like that at Huskie Stadium with the Freso Game being one of them. Has there every been a Homecoming game where it was a crisp sunny day? It always seems to be an overcast, cold rainy day.
I apologize for going off on a tangent and do not mean to take the spotlight from Stacys' daughter. But your post got my writing juices going.

I copied this blurb from a website that covered the 2024 commitment to the volleyball program from a player (OH) from Ohio, Emma McCartney. I think we simply miss the professional approach that coaches and athletic administrators take in dealing with prospective student-athletes. I think the words of this recruit reflect a positive culture in athletics.
“I was attracted to NIU because of the size of the school, the team culture that is being built throughout all athletics, the goal-oriented coaching style, and the educational opportunities,” she said. “The recruiting process as a whole has been very stressful due to the number of schools that I was in contact with. NIU made sure that our relationship during this process was healthy and unique. I never felt stressed when I was talking with them, so I knew from the beginning that our relationship would stand out and be strong.”
Visiting the university helped her to lock in her decision to pick NIU over the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, Wright State, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, North Carolina-Greensboro, Dartmouth, Lehigh, Bowling Green, and Arkansas State, among others.
“It was amazing,” McCartney said of the visit. “I had a great time getting to know the coaching staff and the team. I also got to meet the athletic and education staff. They were all very welcoming and made sure that I was there for the right reasons.”
