Its about the rivalries that are built over the years.

Memphis can thrive without them.

LOL---I have been a fan for almost 60 years --and I have never once stressed or thought --boy I sure wish the university made more money.

If we ever get in the power 5---I will be elated and happy happy happy----not because the university will be making more $$$----but because as a fan the entertainment value will sky rocket

The university making more money is fine with me-----it just doesn't impact my family in any way .

Actually because of our history suffering with -BATTERED FAN SYNDROME- and having to live with all the decisions the university has made through out the years---and suffering through all the lean times ---the university should be paying us long time fans reparations LOL. Spread some of that extra $$$ Houston made our university around to the fan base LOL----BTW JK but I couldn't resist LOL

Full disclosure --was a season ticket holder in FB/BB for years and years-----but stopped with the donations when I realized in the grand scheme of things----it just wasn't that important . My money now goes to more important things in my eyes----things that matter much more to me .

I'm not mad at anyone for anything.
I'm a Joe Average fan. Rivalries take time to develop. Fans of both sides help shape them. The schools themselves do as well.
Sometimes conference pairings take off and become bitter rivals. Sometimes... No matter how hard they try or you try... You just cannot work up a good hatred for another school.
I'm sure ECU is very good at baseball, but other than that... Meh they really haven't added anything interesting to the AAC.
I'd rather have a root canal than play ECU.
Don't hate them, that's the problem.

I've worked up a good healthy respect for Houston and UCF. But they earned it the hard way.
Now we as fans are being asked to work up a fever pitch for Rice, FAU, and UTSA.
I don't think that will ever happen.
I appreciate UAB being back in our orbit, but hell USM should be in our league. They earned it. Not Rice, not North Texas.
If we're gonna be in this conference... I want it to be somewhat amusing and self fulfilling. I want schools that you learn to love to hate.... Like Louisville, or Ole Prius.
Instead of chicken salad... The AAC with all the hard work it's accomplished gave us chicken sh!t.
Instead of ready made rivalries already established...it gave us more schools we have nothing in common with...that we have to start all over with.
I'm middle aged now. Too old to invest much energy hoping that Memphis and North Texas or UTSA learn to hate each other.
