Looks like Stephan F Austin will join the University of Texas System. Good news for the University and East Texas as SFA will now have access to PUF.

SFA will be allowed to keep its name and mascot. Eventually, SFA will adopt the UT name as it carries more weight and prestige than SFA. I can see them adopting "UT-East Texas" to recognize the area that it serves. What is interesting is UT-Tyler starting its medical college under their direction and not UT-Austin. Same with the new medical school at UT-RGV. And it will be interesting how the UT system differentiates UT-Tyler and SFA as they serve the same area in East Texas.

It also sounds like TAMU has an interest in Texas Southern as the Aggies want to expand their university system. TAMU already has a strong presence in the Texas Medical Center.

Does anyone know of similar situations in your state with schools joining your major university systems?
