Brogdon now in to pitch in the 3rd,

Clean(ish) inning by Brogdon, with F7, K and then a walk that is erased by Manny throwing out an attempted steal. Can't believe people still try to run on Manny.

Best defensive catcher (throwing, blocking balls, framing) since our 2003 national championship team. Even better than Lehman, Manuel and Parrot-- all of whom were very good defensively.

Agreed. I'm too lazy to look up the Owl record for throwing out attempted steals in a season, but if Manny keeps up this pace (and opposing teams don't read/use scouting reports), I wonder if he might challenge it

After Holderbach gets on due to an error by the SS, we go quietly in the top of the 4th

Jose decides to pull Salazar, but replaces him in the lineup with Rosengard and not Smiggy? Again, unless Aaron is injured I just don't get this?

8 strikeouts in 4.1 IP against Baylor pitchers-- all with bloated ERAs coming in.

In bottom of the 6th, Vincent gets a groundout, then after giving up a single, the runner goes on first movement on a 3-2 pitch and gets picked off. Then another groundout. So after Mauricio's rough start, we've locked the Bears down thus far. If only our bats could wake up!

aaaaaand nope. 3 up 3 down in the 7th, with a K looking on 3 pitches, and another K looking on 4 pitches. So 12 Ks through 7. That's not going to get it done. I'm all for plate discipline, and trying to get on however we can, but sometimes it feels like we're really just trying to get walks, vs. looking to get a pitch to hit.

after retiring the first batter in the 7th, Vincent departs and now Tyler Hamilton coming in. Good to see a decent outing from Vincent (2.3 innings, only one single, 2 Ks, and no walks)

Hamilton then strikes out the next two Bears. Really solid pitching after Mauricio's short night.

after getting the leadoff hitter to ground out, Zaskoda hits a Bear. He gets another groundout that advances the runner to 2b, but a single drives in the run. Now 6-0 going to the 9th.

Good night, and drive home safely. 3 up, 3 down again, with another pair of strikeouts. 15Ks for the evening. Just two singles.

Walt, at least Becker pinch hit for Reidel in the 9th, but struck out on 4 pitches to end the game.

And those were not Baylor's weekend pitchers.

Truly pathetic. Beyond hard to watch. “Fails” in every category. No apparent way out of the dilemma.

Owls offense - 2 hits, both by Gallo. 15 Ks - only Garibay and Garza didn’t have one. An offensive offensive performance.

Sometimes? More like ALL the time. Save for very rare occasions, every batter takes the first pitch fastball down broadway. I've never seen a team of less aggressive hitters. And keep in mind we were facing really poor pitching tonight. Not one of Baylor's pitchers had good stats coming in. 15 Ks against lousy pitching? This team is regressing; not improving. And, again, I just don't get Jose's refusal to play Smiggy, Becker and Smith. Sorry, but there is no way they could possibly do worse than what we've seen the past 5 games (A&M, HCU, Baylor) out of this offense.
