$350 for 7,000 people on top of the raises in season ticket prices and mandatory contributions there...I think we're going to be getting pretty close to a fundraising critical mass here shortly.

This has been one of my issues with NIL all along. It was intended for players to get money from revenue generated from jersey sales, likeness on a video game, a billboard sign, commercial etc. All this is doing is shifting money from donors that previously would have gone to athletic department for budgets for facilities, operations, travel, etc.

My support of UC has included tuition for school and season/individual game tickets. I'll continue to support UC athletics by buying tickets. But my money will not go to pay players

So you will continue not giving money but you'll be more ornery about it?

Hopefully legislation gets it back to being this. Basically make illegal for recruiting inducement and collectives to give NIL. I have no issue with Cincy Shirts selling tees for the players. Heck I would support the shoe companies making gear for the players.

And sadly this fund raising campaign only raises $2.45M which is what amounts to only enough for a handful of players at the upper tier schools. UC will need to ask for this kind of money twice a year if they ever want to compete with the Bama's and OSU's.

Listening to the press conference this is in addition to some other money that has been donated, both individually and from the corporate level.
That being said, you are not wrong. Bottom line is fans need to step up. This is the way college sports is being conducted today. You have to pay to play.

Many months ago, I read an article about Ohio State rounding up boosters and the need to raise $13m a year for NIL. I could be wrong about the number, but wherever it is now will just spiral on the open market.

I donate to a lot of things at UC. Mostly athletics and I'm losing track of all of the asks. I told them to lose my number when the NIL hat gets passed. I'm getting fatigued at all of the super imperative things I need to reach in my jeans to pull out those greens for. To each their own.

RE: Cincy Reigns Calls for 7,000 Donors
These NIL slush funds are shady as hell. Often run by the worst type of jock-sniffing "boosters." The types that universities (even in the SEC) would keep at arm's length in the past. I'm also waiting for the IRS dominoes to start falling on some of these operations that are paying out hefty salaries and honorariums to their board members while trying to operate as non-profits. Having gone to a D3 college, I'm really happy that my alma mater doesn't need to play this game, and really disappointed in a system where UC has to.
I won't count on the NCAA or schools to actually do anything about them, but I think the IRS might be the eventual reckoning.

Lots of fans cannot stand it when college players get paid. It makes no sense to me.

I'm all for players making money on endorsement deals. I'm open to the idea of them becoming paid employees of the university. What I'm against is this system of collectives run by the shadiest jock-sniffers and hangers on that's arisen. I'm against the fact that--across the country--the people setting these collectives up are attempting to leverage it into meddling influence in the athletic departments they profess to care about.
In fact, I think the players becoming employees and getting paid will be a good thing because their contracts will then put an end to the collective system.

Yeah, if Krogers or P&G want to pay for a kid to do some appearances and that gets them to campus I'm fine with it.
But I'm not contributing a plugged nickel to get a kid to play here, or even worse, to stay here. Door is that way.

Unfortunately, if we want to compete at the highest level, we need to support the athletes since college athletics has essentially turned into a multi-billion dollar business with player salaries paid by GoFundMe accounts.

Oh well. If my $350 is what keeps us from the Final 4, thems the breaks.
I'll contribute as a UCAT. I'll contribute to capital projects. I won't pay hired guns who may be here one season as well.

Spot on. Are these guys professionals or not? The Bengals don’t ask you to contribute to a fund to sign players. This kabuki theater needs to end. Either you’re an employee or you’re a student athlete. Essentially this shouldn’t be tied to academic institutions anymore.

You're good with paying for Wes Miller's salary and for facilities? A large part of the motivation behind paying for a good coach or a nice arena and locker room is to attract players. What's the big deal if the funding is more direct?
