+1
Obviously would have loved to have had him back but he's played 4 years and it's time to maximize his professional opportunities. Will definitely go down as one of the top 1 year players we've had. I'd imagine with the dysfunction he went through at Memphis even though he was there longer he'll look back at UC as his school.

I never thought there was any chance Nolley was returning just by the way his Twitter post read. Davenport leaving surprised me though.

Would assume that means we'll have three spots, as I'm expecting Hensley to move on too.
Can do a whole helluva lot with 3 open spaces, and we'll need it with over 60% ofnour shot attempts from last year now out the door.

I'm worried about Hensley if he has to sit out a year to transfer into another school. If Wes is not forcing, but nudging, Hensley may decide to stay and ride the bench with hopes of breaking into playing time as season goes on.

I assume Hensley will at least wait and see if there are minutes available. I also wonder if there was anything behind the scenes (minor injury perhaps) that gives Wes hope Hensley will improve a lot next year. Right now Reed and Hensley will be competing for minutes to backup the 3 and 4. Hensley has to think he's got a chance at least. Add to that, if he transfers he probably has to sit a year, but next year he can grad transfer and not sit, so he may want to stay. If something happens to make those minutes disappear (a transfer most likely) Hensley may look to go elsewhere.

can you only be a grad transfer if you redshirted because of injury? and with the prerequisite school without your study

I'd have bet the ranch in December he wasn't coming back. I just planned on no DDJ and Nolley.

If this is accurate, and I suspect it is, we're seeing a worst case scenario in collegiate sports right now. The NCAA sits on the sidelines unwilling or unable to lead. That leaves a vacuum some in government would gladly try to fill which might prove to be even more worrisome.

At least Nolley finalized his decision soon enough. Not a huge shock with JD, other than I just figured he might just graduate and leave it at that.

Well at least those poor student athletes getting a free education aren't being exploited anymore... right?

Reynolds just committed to uc. Front court should be more physical and athletic.

Per Chad Brendel on twitter, Jamille Reynolds has committed. Gives us another quality big man, who can really pound it inside.
The big question will be does he have to sit out a year? It is his second transfer and he's not a grad transfer (as far as I'm aware), most are saying the NCAA isn't going to give waivers easily.

Physical for sure. i would characterize him as a throwback big, but i always thought he lumbered a little and that we could outrun him in transition.

Good thing UC has one of the best strength coaches in the country.
Good pick up. Now you need some scorers.

RE: UC Basketball Comings and Goings in 2023 Transfer Portal
The good in Reynolds is size and physicality, he can pound it inside with just about anyone. A great complementary piece to Ody, Vik and Sage who are fairly slim for big men. Can also shoot it a bit farther from the rim. Though not really a guy who creates his own shot.
The bad for Reynolds is also his size, he doesn't move that well on defense and that's reflected in his numbers on defense not being great. On Bartorvik he's outside the top 100 in the transfer portal (only slightly better than Davenport) for a reason. Worst case, he could be very similar to Ezikpe, unable to stay on the court because of his defense.
The good news is he has the athleticism, he just needs to dedicate himself to losing weight. I'm sure that's a conversation Wes had with him. Reading the Temple forum, it looks like fans were frustrated that he didn't lose weight there (maybe even put more on). Let's hope he's ready to put in the effort that he needs to. If he does that he should be able to start or at least average over 20 minutes.
The biggest question is, will he have to sit a year? The NCAA has stated that they are going to be strict on giving out waivers to guys who transfer a second time, we'll see if they actually follow through on that. For Reynolds (and us long term) sitting a year might not be a bad thing, as it gives him time to really get into shape and gives us a big man who should complement Sage very well down the line. But for next years sake, we are obviously better off if he gets a waiver.

Sounds like a good pickup, but the program is in a place where it needs to use scholarships on players who can help this year.
