Yeah no clue about Bertram. I thought he would be used similar to Justin Brown. Pass to him when we need some clutch 3s when Jelly is getting double or triple teamed but nope.
And how many games did Rongie play this year? Perhaps we are redshirting him this year since he had to play so many minutes/games last year due to injuries. I thought we were going to redshirt him last year but ended up needed him to play more.
I don’t think Rongie can redshirt. I wasn’t sure why we didn’t do that.

6'9" guy that shoots 3s at 36%. Not a shot blocker. Interesting.
How about 6’9” and shoots 3s at 41.5%? That is who comes to Bartow Arena tomorrow evening - Felipe Haase for Southern Miss. He is 59-142 from 3. I’m not sure our bigs can stop him.
I saw him play against Samford this year. He hit 3 or 4 threes. Really spreads the floor, but I wish he were a few inches taller.

You do realize that he'll be playing AGAINST us tomorrow night, don't you?

Yes, my fault. Southern Miss didn’t play Samford, VMI did. VMI went 7-25 this season.
I was just trying to point out the caliber of player we will see tomorrow evening.

I should have clarified. I was talking about Tyler Houser for VMI. He had 14pts vs Samford

Something Jelly did for us is make UAB and AK’s system very attractive for a guard that wants to be high scoring. Imagine if we get a. Guy like jelly that’s 6’3+ he would dominate

Cobe Williams from LA Tech. Not on Jelly's level (no one is) but a backcourt with EG and Cobe could be dangerous. He averaged 18.8 ppg before his departure.

Just noticed he's 6'0, 180 lbs. The point still stands though. Very dynamic guard

I don’t have an issue with a smaller PG the issue with Jelly had been he is essentially a nonfactor on defense. The pros out weigh the cons but Cobe I remember being good on defense

RE: Basketball Transfer Portal
Cobe is definitely a much better on ball defender than Jelly was/is. I *think* a back court of him and Gaines would be ok defensively. They'd be a nightmare stealing the ball/tipping balls away.
It'll be interesting to see where he lands and who he is interested in and vice versa? I'm sure he'll get high major interest, but does he go somewhere where he only plays a small role or does he go to another La Tech level school, or slight step up, and play a big time role on a team that is projected to make noise?

RE: Basketball Transfer Portal
Saint Louis G Nick Kramer has entered the transfer portal.
https://twitter.com/UABAthleticsFan/stat...1428652034
Quote:Not sure if there will be interest this go around, but UAB offered Kramer as a HS prospect before he committed & signed with Saint Louis. His father, Jack Kramer, played 3 seasons at UAB (‘88-‘91). He redshirted this year, so he has 4 years of eligibility remaining.

What was Kramer's star rating and interest from other schools like?
Guard is the one position where we have some good returning players/depth and incoming players.. with gaines, toney, butta, and the juco guy

KJ Satterfield is also listed as a PG at 6'4 so looks like we should have plenty of ball handlers

Agreed, I don't understand the "roster filler" type players that don't get a lick of playing time even though they are transfers. Guys like Locure, Tate, AD, Bertram, Jamal Johnson, and Justin Brown were for the most part were just cheer leaders unfortunately. Maybe theyre really good practice players to have, I just see a team like FAU where anyone could go off for a big night instead of maybe 2 guys. Granted I can't complain with the success of our staff so what do I know
