These teams were in the upper half from mediocre Mid-Major conferences. They were no better than the MAC teams we face in conference play. If we cant be ready for teams that we are on par with, then we got a lot bigger problems.

Ok let’s take a honest look and the program/ situation. Carlsen (as we know it) has 1 year left on her contract. Again as we know she has not been renewed/extended. In the world of D1 athletics if you are down to your last year on your contract and have not been extended things are not looking in your favor. Could she manage to get that extension? Sure it’s possible but to me that arrow is definitely pointing down. So like I said in an earlier post let’s sit back-enjoy a successful football season and see what STF decides is best for WBB.

My guess is that Coach Carlsen will see some sort of contract extension. I'll bet there was some sort of agreement to that effect in bringing her daughter to the team.

What you are saying is certainly possible but I don’t think that one had anything to do with the other. What her daughter gave was a verbal and certainly not binding. Even if she signs her LOI during the early signing period next November NIU could always release her from that if Carlsen’s contract is not renewed. I’ve got MLB starting soon and then college football later this summer so I’m just gonna sit back and enjoy them and see what happens with WBB next winter. Go Huskies!

Frankly, that's a pant-load of a reason for an extension. While it's endearing, it means that program and coaching evaluation are c&*p because management due diligence is c&*p. Decommits are common, and there's always the transfer portal. I agree with Huskies 08 ... sit back and watch next season and see what happens. BTW, if her daughter stays for four years, are we looking at a four-year extension?

If STF is serious about NIU being a true Division I athletic program, it has to act like one, not your friendly neighborhood high school.

Is her Daughter considered a top recruit in IL with multiple offers?

Never have seen her play but from what I’ve heard from a couple of different sources she is a marginal D1 player and that’s all I know. Not commenting with this one way or another but the daughter comes to several home games-she’s about 5’8” average build. Her high school team (Sycamore) had a girl that was their best player this year-a 6’ 3” senior center I believe- that’s going to Western Michigan for what that’s worth.

Correct she was one of 20 some girls who received honorable mention honors.

RE: WBB at the 2023 WBI
Lexi Carlsen is a junior this year, so wouldn't play for NIU until 2024-25. NIU's two signees for 2023-24 are both also AP honorable mentions ...

-- Shannon Blacher (Class 3A, Montini Catholic, Lombard) 5-10 G
-- Maddy Fay (Class 4A, Fremd, Palatine) 6-2 C

So four are departing the team and two are signed, unless I missed some earlier signees (?). Not saying it's a bad thing, but transfer portal again?

Note: the 2023 commit to WMU from Sycamore HS is Evyn Carrier, 6-4 F
