RE: WBB going to 2023 WBI
WBI is three games in three days, March 17-18-19. Don't know which NIU will play after GaSo, but Cal Baptist defeated UND. On the other side of the bracket, New Mexico Stated beat UIC, and East Tennessee State beat FIU.

So ... winner's bracket has ETSU, NM St and CBU. Hopefully tonight NIU will be the fourth. Go Huskies!

RE: WBB going to 2023 WBI
Halftime: GaSo 40 NIU 26

Some points (draw your own conclusions):
-- Ga So got 10 second-chance points on 6 offensive rebounds. NIU's numbers were 4 and 4.
-- GaSo made 8 of 11 layups; NIU got 2 of 5.
-- GaSo is shooting 50%; NIU 33.3%.
-- GaSo got 20 points off the bench: NIU got 8.
-- NIU made 12 of 12 freethrows; GaSo 5 of 6.

One good thing? No matter the outcome of these three games, A'Jah Davis can get some records or move up in the all-time ranks with rebounds and double-doubles. She needs 14 rebounds to pass Carol Owens for second all-time; she has 5 this first half.

Niu loses 69-58.

NIU will play North Dakota at 5 p.m. Sat March 18 in the Consolation Bracket. Cal Baptist beat UND 96-79 in the first round. Third NIU game is vs either FIU or UIC on Sunday.

(Changed thread name since they're already there).

RE: WBB at the 2023 WBI
FIU -- the last-in fill (obviously) that came in at 12-18 -- beat UIC 68-65 in the first consolation game, and will face either NIU or North Dakota on Sunday, after the NIU-UND game today.

My opinion only ... one of the reasons for playing this tournament is to give graduating A'Jah Davis a chance to get past Carol Owens for #2 all-time rebounds. Owens had 1,028, and coming in to the WBI, Davis needed 14 more to go up by 1. She got 8 on Friday, so 6 more ... Anyway, Tammy Hinchee is #1 with 1,099, a little out of reach.

I'm pulling for Davis. From her NIU bio: played freshman year at DeKalb High School before transferring to Montverde Academy in Florida. Played for NIU alumna E.C. Hill at Montverde. Daughter of Herilanda Thigpen and Luke Davis Jr. ... Mother played basketball at NIU from 1995 to 1997.

Someone said Davis might play overseas after NIU. Best wishes to her now and in future.

Meanwhile ...
--- Chelby Koker is not scoring at her usual pace -- hope she's ok. Her intention, according to some posters, is to return next year.
--- One or two subs not seen much this past season are getting minor minutes. Coaches love extra practice.
--- If this was intended to boost HC Lisa Carlsen into her next and last season under contract (sans extension), it's not working. But coming in at 16-10, even three losses still leaves a winning record.

They came in at 16-14 NOT 16-10. Losing record is still possible.

RE: WBB at the 2023 WBI
Correction? If NIU's website is NOW correct r.e. career stats, Davis passed Owens in career rebounds in the WBI GaSo game. Owens had 1,028. Prior to that game, Davis had 1,023, and added 8 more vs GaSo. So going into today's game against UND, Davis has 1,031. (The erroneous earlier report -- also from the NIU website -- said Davis needed 14 to pass Owens).

Thanks! I don't know why I did that, except I tend to work late on stuff. Shows that anyone can muck it up if they work too fast and don't double-check. stay up late and drink too much coffee.

I was trying to figure out Davis's career rebounds total, since the official website threw out different numbers at different times. Since it was first posted at 1,003, Davis added 12 vs KSU in the MACT and 8 vs GaSo, totaling 1,023. So 6 more today would top Owens.

FINAL: UND wins 102-99

NIU (16-16) plays UIC (18-17) on Sunday 11 a.m. CST.

A'Jah Davis got 8 rebounds, so her total of 1,031 puts her above Carol Owens at 1,028 and #2 behind Tammy Hinchee with 1,099.

Yeah ... finishing 8th in an 8-team tournament. UIC (19-17) was tapped for 7th.

We may never know. When is anything like that ever disclosed? Cost was probably handled within the A.Dept. budget
As Huskies 08 said in the "Coach Carlsen" thread, we are only able to sit back and see what happens next. If anything.

A very, very disappointing weekend. I thought they’d win one game at least, but they were just not ready for this.
