WBB at the 2023 WBI
I think it's great that NIU is going to a WBB tournament in March (and I wonder the cost too) but how long do you think it will be before someone in the A.Dept realizes the error in this official website release (headline and first graph):

"NIU Selected To Play In 2023 Women’s Basketball Invitational"

"DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team was selected to the 2019 Women's Basketball Invitational on Sunday night, sending the Huskies to a national postseason tournament for the first time since 2017. NIU is one of eight teams selected to play in the 13th edition of the WBI."

Note: I took a screenshot. I needed proof at least for myself. It was posted oin 3-12-2023.

Like some others, IMO, NIU really needs to get its act together.

RE: WBB invited to 2019 tourney in 2023
I love WBB as a sport. I hope the Huskies do well. Some good teams in there that didn't get to the NCAA or WNIT.

Not earth shattering, but fun news. Hope the ladies do some damage, seems like a crowd they could make a run at.

Per usual the NIU athletic department is about four years behind the rest of the country.

Nice chance to get a few more games in. I have no idea how the other teams are and they are from all over.

Good luck, ladies!

I checked the tourney website and there is a selection process that begins in January--it's an obvious apply and have a chance thing. I'm sure that a good host of schools that started the process are in other tourneys.

And, it's probably similar to the infamous Las Vegas (you fill in the blank as to how man) where there probably is a cost to it.

Good for the NIU WBB team! Congrats! Seems like the WBI is more stable than the one and only Vegas 8.

You are right to question the cost and am curious also. But any exposure is good exposure.

RE: WBB invited to (2019?) tourney in 2023
The A.Dept fixed it, taking "2019" out and putting "2023" in. The announcement was supposed to be a big deal for WBB, and someone having their head up their a** with such a stupid mistake detracts from the effort and the opportunity. It embarrasses me too, as an NIU alum. How does something that obviously wrong get in there?

As someone said, I suspect FIU got in as a "fill" when someone else bowed out for the other tourneys.

I'd also like to see more of the bench who hopefully will be back next year. They who didn't get much PT can use it vs just practice.

Think anyone will opt out?

This is a big deal for Coach Carlsen and the team. Congrats to them! Best of luck to the women next weekend in Kentucky. Georgia Southern will be a tall order but hopefully the Huskies can sneak through a win.

RE: WBB going to 2023 WBI
March 17 Friday 6:30 p.m. CST according to our website. Georgia Southern (by record) seems to be one of the better teams. They were 20-8 overall with no "big names" in o-o-c, and 12-6 Sun Belt Conference. In the SBC tournament, they lost to Arkansas State in OT 81-76. GaSo also beat the SBC's NCAA tournament rep James Madison twice, 69-65 and 72-61.

(Note: I changed the thread subject name ... enough is enough from me. A.Dept. fixed it.)

Is there one? I did a Google and found zilch. You could ask Big Red if he's around.

Anyhow, right now I'm synced with WBB.

There is no Vegas 8 tournament and NIU only won 13 games so they wouldn’t be in it anyway. The 2015-16 Huskies won 21 games and went to the Vegas 8 tournament.

It seems we play well when we face the better teams. Its the lesser teams that we have trouble with and gives us headaches.

There was only the one Vegas 8 Tourney and I believe it was supposed to be 16 teams at first. It, like this woman's tourney was a pay to play event. You don't pay and you won't play in other words. I guess athletics has the money though. Good for the ladies in that they get 3 more games and not just the one like Vegas.

There's the NCAA, NIT and CBI for MBB. According to the CBI website, "The CBI is a postseason tournament for teams not picked in the NCAA tournament or the NIT that are also willing to pay a $27,500 entry fee to participate. It's operated by The Gazelle Group ... ." Played in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Can we talk about WBB now? After GaSo, NIU faces either Cal Baptist or Nortth Dakota, both of which have winning records. IMO NIU got in the tougher bracket, looking at the whole field.

Last year there was also the TBC (The Basketball Classic) that replaced some other tournament. Not the Vegas...something with a dot com in the title or maybe that's the CBI but there was another one that either became or was replaced by the TBC (and yes..I know the "The" and the "T" are redundant). CIT maybe?
