I’d rather leave the game I attended & Uber 5 mins to bars that are open until 2-3am in Bham than EVER have to leave a game and walk to a bar in Des Moines, Ia this time of year, Just sayin…..
You ever been to Des Moines? It's a great place, even this time of year.. The city is a lot like Bham but not as crowded.
wish we could get a home and home with Drake

RE: BJCC / Protective Stadium
I went to a Grizzlies-Mavs game last night in Memphis--a regular season game on a Monday night. It's the second weeknight game I have been to for a Grizzlies game in the last five or six years. Immediately after the game, a good percentage of those inside the arena exit and walk across the street to Beale Street, where there are plenty of places open to eat, drink, listen to music, etc. well into the night.
I am not a bar guy, but I loved the "street party" atmosphere, even if I headed out pretty quickly for a long late drive home to B'ham after the game. And I think that's what fans of an NCAA tournament are looking for.
I realize Beale Street is unique, but I would love for us to have some more options for Uptown, especially after our football games. Of course, those businesses have got to be able to stay in business the other 350 days a year, and I don't think they have enough of a base to generate enough revenue on non-event nights to keep the lights on all year.

You nailed it on the fan expectation and the environment around many venues.

Beale Street is an entertainment district that also houses FedEx Arena, so we will never have that history..
However, CityWalk/Uptown needs to think more like The Battery in ATL. With CityWalk now open and the possibility of the Caraway development, it can easily be similar to The Battery. They just need more unique venues, shops, bars, entertainment, and they need to MARKET THEM. Just like UAB is atrocious in marking, CityWalk/Uptown is terrible at marketing as well.
I think the next brewery that sets up a satellite location in Bham needs to open one in Uptown.

I really think the next brewery should be in the unfinished church on 31 near Top Golf!
