I'd say replace Sodexo as they just don't seem to give 2 sh*ts even for regular BJCC events much less sports ones where there's thousands more people.

This wouldn't even need to be a thread here if UAB had been allowed to build its own stadium. Point number 632 on why the BJCC stadium was not good enough and Ray Watts should be fired

It's only gonna get worse with the new amphitheatre.
The new amphitheater will be operated by LiveNation, not the BJCC

I am curious as who you would have run these venues, Bruno Events?

Presumably UAB would've run a UAB-owned stadium (or, a UAB-managed contractor). No guarantee they wouldn't have screwed it up, but it would be a lot easier to hold them accountable rather than the BJCC contracting it out, where the BJCC has zero incentive for good service and every incentive to reduce costs to zero and prices to infinity

I was big a proponent of the OCS as anyone here, and I'm still angry over how the BoT treated it. That said, the BJCC floated the bonds that the BoT would not allow UAB to issue. Without the BJCC providing the financing we'd still be at Legion Field - and we might not have gotten into the AAC.
As to firing Pumpkinhead, that would have to come from the BoT as well, and we all know that's not going to happen. He was a loyal minion.

The Legion has had all the same problems we do at Protective, and it happened when there were only two concession stands open. I'd be raising sixteen kinds of hell too.

Frankly I'm impressed at the level of power the Legion are wielding. They don't even pay to use the facility. UAB should hopefully see this and, as the only team actually paying bills, not be afraid to swing their stick.

The Legion, like UAB, have some big powerbrokers in town that are banking on the team being successful and driving the downtown/uptown business revival. Some of those folks may not care about soccer at all but they do care about Birmingham and have vested interest. It would be bad for business and long term plans for the franchise to fail.
The venue needs to get its stuff together and deliver a world class fan experience whether there are 2000 people there or 47,000.

Yes and no. I do get to hear a lot of the inside baseball that happens with the Legion, and they're trying to get out of Protective as soon as possible. Protective was their only option after the BBVA/PNC debacle. But their current plan is to play at Protective for a couple of years, build some savings, and then construct their own stadium. The last I heard they have a spot picked out on Valley

Just wanted to chime in with the Sodexo thing, they like many other food service industries are struggling to hire people to work these kind of jobs. Hard to find people that want to get paid $10 to $12 dollars an hour these days when you can do a gig job that pays more, be your own boss, and set your own schedule.

Then why not make some deal with local schools. That's what we did at Legion and Bartow. And yes I know Legion Field was city owned, but the BJCC can't be that dense and do something similar.

Valley Ave? Wonder if it's that large fenced off property next to Homewood Middle School.

I hope they do build their own stadium. Having it within walking distance to Sammy’s, priceless. Lol

It has to be that old apartment complex site or further out on West Valley.
I suspect you're right. I'd also bet that locating it there would help with Hispanic engagement.

As I shared in a thread from last October:
Quote:"The USL Championship has mandated that all of its clubs are primary tenants in soccer-specific stadiums by 2026."

Legion Field and Bartow (still does) operates basic concessions. Protective and Legacy has chain and local restaurants that serves alcohol so you just can't just insert high school students in those jobs.

Maybe the concession companies should pay a little better and they would have staffing.
