Maybe WSU should consider the FDU coach. He just pulled off a historic win.

A good sign that WSU has turned the corner on the NIL, which should help whoever is hired as the next coach.https://www.kansas.com/sports/college/wichita-state/article273318395.html#storylink=mainstage_card7

Tubby Smith, until he began early retirement at Memphis, was successful. His son landed D-1 jobs and was fired from each one.

I believe WSU can be successful with any of those three.

Wichita State under it’s current state cannot afford coaching experiments (I don’t mean that financially) they need a head coach who can help them get better immediately… Of the three candidates above I think Preston Spradlin is your man.

Just my $.02

Like I'm sorry I know Memphis fans don't like Tubby Smith, but if his resume for his career isn't "very successful" then the actual list of very successful coaches barely exists.

Spradlin is also on the long list at NMSU.

I ‘magine WSU is ahead of the Aggies in that line though.

I don't see the traction to keep Kellen's name being thrown out there.

He's already got a head coach job locked up, he's got job security until its his turn to be UH head coach and then have to prove it on the court.

Tubby sullied his resume with his performance since he left Kentucky. He does not fit into the elite "very successful" category.

I guess it all depends on how you define "very successful". If you set the bar high enough then the odds of any two coaches, whether related or not, would be extremely low of both ever getting there. Low enough that it kind of makes the discussion pointless I think.

However, if the "very successful" yardstick is looking at the universe of people who coach for a living then there are not many with a better record than Dick Bennett. He had success that exceeds what most coaches ever see, at multiple levels, multiple times.

"In the mid-1970s, he led Eau Claire Memorial High School to the state title game. In the mid-1980s, he led the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to an NAIA title game. In the early 1990s he brought the Green Bay Phoenix of UW–Green Bay to its first three NCAA tournament appearances. And in 2000, after five years in Madison, he took the Badgers to the Final Four."

He's not Coach K, but most coaches never hit one of those marks. Of course his son Tony has won a National Championship at UVA, and his daughter Kathi coached the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to the 1996 National Championship.

Dick got Wisconsin to a Final Four at a time that conference was dominated by Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana in 96-97, Michigan, Illinois, and Purdue in 97-98, Michigan State, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Indiana in 98-99, and Michigan State, Purdue, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa 99-00.
He coached against some Big 10 coaching legends. Izzo, Gene Keady Purdue, Bobby Knight Indiana. They had some other good..not great guys that he had to go against...so it was a slugfest just about every year.
Tony learned his defensive background from his father.
