We are on the verge of not only being left out in football, but also basketball. I am of the firm belief that if the power conferences ever break off and start their own division, they are going to take the Big East with them for basketball.

A viable football conference can be put together with the best of the rest schools.

What would a football only conference look like if we added the best of the G5? Just an idea I have below for a football only league. I’ve added some not so commonly mentioned schools, just because they are large state schools that could have potential.

Then add Memphis, Gonzaga, SMU to BigEast basketball and call it a day.

The American conference disbands & rebrands as a football only league.

I’m just throwing some ideas out there in regards to schools. Going for schools who have demonstrated at least somewhat long-term success. While at the same time trying to add on some schools that have some upside due to the size of their school and locations.

Well, for sure the BE will not be left out when it comes to BB. In fact I recently saw an article on the BE - Fox relationship indicating the BE will likely get $8M+ from Fox in 2026 renewal. That confirms the BE is still a big dog when it comes to being a major college BB force. And that kind of $$ should get our attention to at least explore consideration of separating FB from our oly sports if membership in the BE becomes available, i.e., keep our options open.

Not saying I'm necessarily an advocate but given our situation in a diminished AAC (especially as all members eventually receive equal shares), we will need to be proactive.

I don't buy the left behind bit.
Calipari went to Elite 8s while we were in CUSA...and we were a 1 bid league most years...UAB managed to sneak in a time or two.
Football is where we need to put our worry.

If there is another realignment & if we’re again left out, then I think we’ll have to make some difficult decisions with football. How long will basketball boosters continue to carry the athletic department if it means watching rivals move on while we remain stagnant? How much more would the athletic department make in donations/PSL’s if our home schedule was Xavier, Creighton, Villanova, Georgetown, Providence, Marquette, UCONN & Butler?

I think the Big East would be happy to have us but I don't want to us to make a move that would essentially shoot Football in the foot, both of them.

Could you have a basketball tournament with only 40 teams available to choose from?

So what if the SEC and B1G go to 20 teams and break off?

The NCAA still runs all the postseason outside of football.

And every school relies heavily on money generated by the NCAA mens basketball tournament.

We did pretty good with OOC this year, add a few more preferably ACC and a couple big East

Not many P5 teams want to play us home and home. How long are booster going to put up thousands of dollars to see Rice , ECU and Tulsa ?

Yet we care about Rice, FAU and North Texas ? Check the attendance for last years North Texas football game it wasn’t good.

A conference schedule with multiple top 25 home games compared to a home conference schedule with none… at $3000-$6000 per seat for lower bowl seats thats a tough ask for basketball boosters.

The Big East’s current TV deals pays out between 4.6 & 7 mil per year, with a renewal in 2025 expected to be worth far more than it was originally with the addition of UCONN. The AAC’s most recent pays each school just for under 7 mill. Would Memphis be better off going the UCONN route if a P5 invite was not in the cards? Certainly, it would mean more basketball dollars and a better product to help sell against the growing interest in the Grizzlies.
