Also, please attack Walker on defense as much as possible tonight. Every possession if we can. He's an incredible offensive talent who doesn't want to defend and who doesn't defend.

Mason turns down a wide open 3 to charge into a defender who was set for three years. I'm not seeing any difference tonight from the past two games. Already 9-3 UAB and we look lost on offense and defense.

11-5 UAB at the first TV timeout. I guess it's a win that we're not already down 10? But man, everything looks laborious on offense. UAB's ability to shut down our sets was the big reason why they throttled us in the previous matchups. I'm hoping Pera has added some wrinkles but UAB looks defensively sound.

13-12 Rice. Much better.

UAB into their press for the first time. Let's see how we deal with it. Two 3s for Evee. That's massive.

16-12 Rice at the U12. Love seeing Evee involved more on offense. Defensive effort has been outstanding over the past 7-8 minutes. Really making UAB work for shots. Don't know how long that'll last, but it gives us more of a chance.

Huseinovic forces a shot and then doesn't get back in transition (nor does anybody else). If you're a coach, yank him for that. It's selfish on offense and it's bad effort on defense.

21-16 UAB, 9-0 run. We've reverted back to how we played in the first 4 minutes.

We have absolutely no clue how to attack their zone. Completely baffled by it (again).

21-18 UAB at the U8. Just keep it within shouting distance.

Evee gambles for a steal leaving Walker wide open for a 3. Then Mason immediately turns it over. Then Evee throws a terrible pass to Sheffield and turns it over. UAB lead up to 8. Fiedler then with an F effort defending inside.

Mason picks up his 3rd foul. Not really his fault. Fiedler gave him the ball in a bad spot.

UAB 31-23 at the U4. UAB's defense is extremely impressive yet again. I don't know how much of that is coaching versus predictability and a lack of playmakers on our end. But we have no room to breath. The cuts and backdoors aren't there. They're quick on every closeout. Their length is clogging up passing lanes. It's been a clinic again. And the zone they play might be the only zone I've seen all year that I don't hate.

One ugly stretch of basketball last few minutes

That's how you lose a game. Rice cuts it to 2 and then we go: (1) foul a 3PT shooter, (2) refs maybe blow a goaltend (on a shot that wasn't going in to be fair), (3) UAB hits a 3, (4) Olivari carelessly turns it over when we can hold it for the last shot, (5) UAB alley oop.

A 32-30 deficit turns into a 40-30 deficit in the span of 45 seconds.

I'll give Olivari a pass on the foul because he kind of lost his balance and stumbled into the shooter. But Jesus that turn over was so lazy.
