With this track record, I'm curious about the transfers we attract. I'll assume these recruit retention stats are not something they want to focus on.

There are more D1 wannabe athletes than there are D1 spots. We need to hope we find the right ones.

RE: 2023 MBB Transfer Portal
What I would give for the next Tribe coach to coach the way that Kelsey does at Charleston. None of the players on his roster scare the heck out of you but every one of them played with high motors and great passion on both ends of the court. They went 12 deep and substituted frequently but it seems that every kid on the floor made winning the only priority and every kid on the roster felt invested in the team and had a chance to take ownership in the outcome because everybody played and gave total effort when they were on the floor. I do not think that you have nearly as much trouble with kids leaving the program when every kid is made to feel special and contributes some way on a nightly basis.

What a fun team that would be to watch. and I think that Fischer could have done it to some degree with last year's roster IF he had been willing to change his style and courtside demeanor. How you go 4 years without one technical foul blows my ever loving mind. I yelled at the refs far more than he did.

Thanks for all your commitment the last two years. Very telling to me in his announcement that he did not mention or thank any of the coaches.

How many roster spot openings will we have to fill for next year?

Come on Brian, Mann up and do the right thing and move on from Fischer please (though I’d be shocked at this point if he does as all signs point to this staff returning with no movement yet and the assistants actively following transfer targets which is a huge bummer).

He did: “I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, and brothers”
He was classy all season and classy on exit.

What is telling is that very few players want to play at W&M, even fewer want to play for this Coach, and even of those that come here, the majority opt to leave.

I believe Mann can and may still move on a timetable. If we get past next Monday with no decision then I think we get a 5th first year.

Good catch … sorry I missed that and you are absolutely that Tyler has been exceptionally full of integrity, class, and great character walking through the entire ordeal.

I think this is a healthy divorce. Rice was capital-b Bad when he played and I don't blame the staff for sticking him on the end of the bench--you can't beg them to keep a player they've lost confidence in. BUT I think it's also true that he wasn't developing appropriately and this program is nowhere near the best fit for him. He won't have a pile of interest but someone is going to take a chance on him.

The thing is, if I can't really blame our bench guys for seeking a better option, and I can't really blame our starters for getting out either, who exactly do I think should be playing for this program? Painful question. As I've said before, right now from a basketball perspective we're offering guaranteed playing time to anyone good...and that's about it.

Four spots to fill. A center, a backup PG, and absolutely anyone who can shoot with a core temperature in the upper 90s.

Paulsen (D's mentor) on coaching philosophy:

I realized it’s about player development and relationship building with the guys, and team building. I feel more teams are beaten from within than from without. The longer I’m in coaching, I’m fanatical about that. When I got here, having a staff to really help me even more with the nuts and bolts of teaching the game, it became building a relationship with players and between players. It’s about creating a culture within a program, the core values of a program and those core values relate and translate to success on the court, and ultimately to success throughout the rest of the players’ lives.

From that nice blurb, all I got was I hope Paulsen gets the Bucknell gig and sets up the obvious landing spot for when Dane is canned and hopefully offsets some of the money he's owed.

The sooner Dane leaves the better! In my opinion, if Dane has a job waiting for him, he can leave with not being fired!!!

All true, but for the sake of the NBN post it was focused on Dane recruits.

Totally get it, but they all quit while he was the head coach. It is very hard for me to believe the amount of turnover.

Not that the program is in a healthy state, but this is something that might even happen to a healthy program in the brave new world of transferring.

A majority--maybe even a large majority--of players are not going to play four years with a single team.

20-21 roster of 14 players:

Ayesa
Blair
Covington
dronjak
Harvey
Hermanovski
Kochera
Loewe
Milkereit
Samuels
Scott
Stone
Washburn
Wight

Only 4 (so far)Did not transfer to use eligibility elsewhere?
That’s 10 of 14? Could still get to 11?

relationship building? it’s a revolving door Bachelorette show where the contestants voluntarily exit without a rose

I mean Milkereit is the last guy from last year's roster still on the team right? And it's not going to shock anyone if he enters the portal. 100% turnover in 12 months is a rate not even my local Chili's can match.
