Neutral site conf tournament is so dumb:

-teams don’t get a shoot around before the game. When they come on floor for warmups it’s the first they’ve shot there. Absurd.

-empty arena w no atmosphere

- if you want to make the regular season count, let the top seed host the tourney. At least the mid majors that have that model have packed gyms with great atmosphere for their tourney games.

Quite honestly, I think the women's coaches want to play in an NBA arena, even without fans.

I figured it would be easy. Thanks for confirming.

It’s not just Wiard. It’s been the offensive philosophy for years under Cullop. Pass the ball around the perimeter until someone is open and pray it goes in. It’s why when you see Lockett or Goss or Jansen take the ball to the hole, you get excited.

But whatever, just be ready come Friday

Not positive on that, but UT got/made the breaks they needed in the end which better teams usually do.

Buffalo royally screwed up the end of regulation...they could have fouled being up 3 and didn't, and then two defenders got crossed up and just left Lockett WIDE open for the tying 3.

Also, the last foul on Buffalo that lead to the game winning free throws was pretty much a phantom call...and could have certainly been let go in an overtime game. Lockett also made a lot of contact on the jump ball called with .05 left...certainly more contact than the foul just called on the other end...if you call one, you should probably call both...IMO, both should have been no calls.

I think at the end of regulation it was too early to foul up 3. Can’t do that with more than 10 seconds left.

Now I do agree with you that there was a major defensive lapse to back off and leave her wide open for the 3.

And yeah — calls could go either way towards the end. There’s a huge inconsistency in how womens games are officiated.

Probably, but if you overplay the defense on the 3-point line, you certainly don't allow a wide open look and if you happen to foul...or give up a layup...you're likely still up 1 and getting the ball. And yeah, I was not thinking you'd foul with over 10 seconds left. The possession started with 33 seconds left, and the 3 was made with 13 seconds left...so with better defense on the 3-point line, the foul opportunity probably would have been under 10 seconds.

It's just after seeing both Michigan State and Wisconsin lose games by not fouling up 3 on the last possession in the last two weeks...I really hate coaches who refuse to do it. I honestly can't remember a time in recent memory where fouling when up 3 resulted in a team losing a game. Especially when I can cite 3 times is two weeks where it likely resulted in a loss by NOT fouling. 03-wink

Yeah — Toledo wasted a ton of time. Buffalo should have been all over the 3 point line once it was inside 20 seconds.

They were actually doing a decent job of that, but the two just messed up and went away from Lockett. Might have had something to do with being really tired. Buffalo only played 6 girls and the three guards played all 45 minutes.

Looks like Toledo will get Kent 10am Friday. Kent got an early lead and was never really threatened by NIU. Kept them at arms length all day.

RE: ***WBB Quarterfinal Thread vs. Buffalo***
Rockets are having difficulty against every opponent in the latter part of the season. IMO they have played like they feel the pressure of high expectations for most of the season and certainly lately. I only see them playing loose and aggressive when they get into their press. They have now won the last five games on the basis of the plays in the last minute. That is not a trend you want to continue. And why was Garcia on the bench the last 4-5 minutes of the game? She made a couple of errors, but she had demonstrated throughout the game that Buffalo couldn't handle her inside.

For me Goss, Garcia and Mikonowicz were the most effective players in the first half and kept the rockets in the game while Buffalo was burying the 3's. Jansen was also a highly effective player especially in the second half. And Q put the team on her back in the final minutes and in the overtime. Wiard was a complete nonfactor on offense including 0 for 8 from 3.

RE: ***WBB Quarterfinal Thread vs. Buffalo***
Toledo runs a ton of sets... so many that plenty of girls aren't smart enough to get a hold of it and transfer out. Their Zone was just a problem today. We didn't miss our first 8 threes in the first matchup. We also only played em once, so they mixed it up some. UB was going to be trouble for one, MAYBE two games before they wore out.

Toledo needs to win these games at the line and play looser in the 1st half. We are awesome when we press, but in a 3 game in 4 day scenario with only 2 bigs... you kind of hope you don't have to run yourself out of gas. We probably win the game by 10+ if we press like the end of our past 3 games from the jump.

In my opinion, it seems opposing defenses are tightening down on Wiard and Lockett, forcing Toledo to try and beat them in other ways. Luckily, Toledo has the depth and experience, where there have been others to step up enough to put Toledo over the top. Wiard has also been struggling. Buffalo did a great job hitting threes, avoiding fouls, and preventing Toledo from getting second chance points for much of the game. I think Kent St played in similar fashion last time. Should be another tight game on Friday. Survive and move on.

A close game with Kent feels like it has to go their way. Either we figure them out and actually win a game going away, or they find out how to fight us off.

BG in a snoozer over EMU right now. Wide open layups with like zero defenders in the key... How did EMU get so bad this past month. I thought they could be a top 5 team after we saw em in Ypsi. Now they stink.

They’ve a turnover machine. Average 17+ a game. Turned it over 29 times the only time they played BG. Another 23 today. They can’t handle any pressure.
