The Kent State squad, 2001-02 team that had a regular season record of 24-5 went on to represent the MAC in the NCAA tourney. They won the MAC by beating # 8 Marshall 82-70, #4 UT 86-61, and beat # 3 BG 70-59.

They were the #10 seed out of the South region. They beat # 7 Okie St, 69-61, # 9 seed Alabama, 71-58, # 8 Pitt, 78-73 (OT) to advanced to the elite 8. They lost to the #5 Indiana Hoosiers 69-81.

Can UT (25-6) be that team this year ? One expert has the Rockets as the the #13 seed to play of all teams Indiana, #4 in the first round.

Man, it's hard to believe that was 21 years ago. Remembering back, I was down in Cabo when they made that run to the Elite Eight. That was a gritty team and likely future NFL HOF'er Antonio Gates was a 6'3" 240lb power forward on that team. Seemed like he got to the boards with no effort while guys were bouncing off him like they were toy dolls. Trevor Huffman was another of the many Northern Michigan basketball players than ended up in the MAC and became college stars. That was a fun team to watch and it was surprising how many vacationers down in Cabo were pulling for Kent State.

And now Kent State can be that team again. Got no respect from the CBS crew announcing the field in March Madness, did they not see the close loses that the Flashes had against the #1 seed Houston and # 3 seed Gonzaga during the season. Do your homework next time. Hats off to former Miami Redhawk great Wally Szczerbiak, who pick Kent to beat indiana. That would be nice revenge since it was the Hoosiers who prevented the Flashes from going to the final 4 back in 2001-02 season.

I think Kellogg mentioned it, but that was it.
