CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
I assume the awards will be announced tomorrow.

Last year they were announced March 7th and the tournament started March 8th.

Even missing 5 games, will Jelly repeat as CUSA Player of the Year?
Is Butta in the running for Freshman of the Year and EG for Newcomer of the Year?
Will Jemison, Buffen, or EG make First or Second Team?

As for WBB, I think Denim is a lock for Freshman of the Year.

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
Who is the player of the year if not Jelly? FAU was clearly the best team, but their stats are spread out super evenly among several players. Madea for UNT? Jelly proved his worth by showing how much we struggled without him around. There are several other high scoring players in the conference but they are all on bad teams.

Butta is not close to freshman of the year. He had a nice season, but no. EG - doubt it- too inconsistent and way too many turnovers. Another newcomer had to put up better stats than him right?

Jemison, Buffen, and/or gaines making 2/3rd team is probable for at least one of them.

Yeah, I also think it's a race between Jelly and Perry. FAU are deep but they don't have one star player that really sticks out.

And I don't think Butta or EG will win either awards either, they were just the 2 players eligible for those awards on our team. Yes ,we have the Brewer Bros and Davis, but I don't think they have the stats or starts to be in the running for Newcomer.

I can see Jemison making First, Buffen 2nd or 3rd, and EG honorable mention or 3rd.

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
I would think you have to give player of the year to Jelly. He’s hurt, we suck, he’s back we go on a great 10 of 11 wins. He’s the 3rd or 4th leading scorer in the nation. 3rd in 3’s in the nation and the only thing Perry beats him in statistically is barely better FT and barely better shooting percentage. Jelly is leagues above Perry and I’d consider it a snub if he doesn’t win

I just don’t see them giving it to a player that missed a handful of games. I’d be happy to be wrong

A snub might set him off in a Jordan-took-it-personally-meme sort of way. Lol

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
Missing a handful of games should not matter. He’s been the best player the whole conference season. It’s always stupid to me when the best player does not win these awards due to award fatigue/player fatigue/etc, or whatever you want to call it… and we aren’t the best team this year but we are in 3rd and one of the favorites to win the conference tourney..

Just like Kobe not winning 1 million MVPs or Shaq or LeBron.. Steve nash says what?!

I want to believe that the 41 point game did it for Jelly. He’s got 6 more PPG than Perry and doubles him in assists per game. That’s impressive

Tylor Perry won Player of the Year. He was great but I’m sensing some voter fatigue

Jelly is going to roast this entire field. Watch and see. This is going to be some MJ level “I took that personal” cooking.

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
Jelly came to UAB with a chip on his shoulder and it led to him being one of best breakout players in the country last year. I don't think he's ever stopped playing with that chip, so I don't expect anything differently from him this week. What I hope is that if his shots aren't falling the way we would all like them to, he still plays smart and controlled. Jelly can still be a great offensive player even when he's not scoring 30+ points a game.

I get what you’re saying. But everyone has that extra gear when someone disrespects them and I hope half the teams feels that way after the awards got announced. Time to go scorched earth

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
Both of you guys have excellent points. I want Jelly to be pissed off AF, but still play controlled and not press and make mistakes. The whole team needs to have that chip on their shoulders. We are the best team in this conference, no one else. Time to exit CUSA with a bang.

RE: CUSA Basketball Postseason Awards
There is the zone Jelly can get into sometime where he is controlled flame. That guy can go off for 30+ while involving teammates and not forcing shots. We have seen that one a few times and that is the one I expect to show up.
