Probably a complete rebuild similar to UT when TK arrived. They will be better for sure in near future.

Good man in a difficult situation.

BG men’s basketball hasn’t been relevant since they closed AA and opened up the high school gym.

The "Double Wide" is a high quality pole barn Potts. How dare you insult the upside down five gallon buckets that they call seats in that place. I heard they finally put straw down to cover up the dirt floors in the locker rooms! That place will be the perfect fit for Chris Beard.

Top end for a 15 year old for sure.

They are "nice." Never seen their weight room or anything. Just small time. Would fit in the OVC perfectly. I give em kudos for building something that can fit their normal crowd and give them an advantage when they fill it (often enough). The ability to have a huge crowd that meets capacity is special in Savage. Poor Ohio State drawing 5k in a 15k arena is awkward.

Most of the MAC arenas were built in the 90s or so when you had to be there to see the game. Times are different and wallets are tight. But we used to draw 9k for years on end... the fact that we only draw about 5 more the men is disappointing in a way. But compared to our peers... who have lost nearly 80% of capacity compared to 40% for us... It shows that the teams still have a hard-core fan base.

Bg like UT is well situated for recruiting, 5 hour or less drive to Chicago, Detroit/Mich, Indiana, Cleveland/Columbus/Cincy. They've never had a big fanbase and are small town vs a school like UT that has a metro city around it. Not a bad job, not a great one. Easy to rebuild quickly in the portal era.

Funny that now a revised article states “ one of the better mid major jobs in the Midwest “ and “ BG men have first-rate facilities”…
Still, funny stuff on both counts !!

Strohs Center about the same capacity of Grand Valley State's arena.

RE: BG Fires Huger
You guys continually get hung-up on the size of the arena. It made ZERO sense for BG to build anything with many more seats. The Stroh, opened in 2011, seats 4,387 for basketball. Not sure if you're aware, but Gonzaga's gym, opened in 2004, seats 6,000.

BG's facilities are fine and are more than comparable to the rest of the MAC. Stroh has an auxiliary court. They have the same weight rooms as the other teams in the MAC do...the Sebo Center is used for all sports and is 42,500 square feet. Football has an indoor practice facility which was just used to host the MAC indoor track championships. They have an Olympic size pool...a 5,000 seat hockey arena...

Anyway, more than time for Huger to go. Nice guy, terrible coach.

It only makes sense to have a small facility if you plan on staying small time. They have enough students to fill it to capacity - with 3 people sitting on the laps of every one that got a seat.

Agreed! We don't need two FBS schools 30 minutes apart. BG's stadium is ideal for FCS quality.

Agreed, Huger was a nice guy !!
Met him at the Stones Throw about a week after he got the BG job… Saw me coming with a Rocket jacket and probably figured, OK, here we go, now it starts !!
Actually very friendly and approachable, especially when I welcomed him back to NW Ohio !!
Talked about his time as a player here and how the rivalry would probably amp up a bit since he’s coming back as a former great to coach at BG …

Yeah, because BG's athletics is currently a train-wreck. A new AD was just hired, so it will take some time, no doubt.

But again, when are you leaving the MAC for the "Big Time"? You know, because your basketball Arena seats a whopping 7,300 for basketball. 07-coffee3

I really don’t see “any MAC schools as being there”……meaning Big Timel as long as we are still linked to the MAC we’re in the same boat with all the MAP schools and the other wanna bee’s. Basketball wise…with the exception of OU Ball, and Northern, all of the BB facilities look just like BG. Old crap, Listening to the color commentators on ESPN, the only one that seems to support the MAC is Wally Szczerviak…and for good reason. Living only 6 miles from Princeton, and I know this is not a good comparison to any university, but Jadwin Gym is just unbelievable. They have an indoor baseball field adjacent to the bb arena. BTW…for the BG poster…I watched the Gonzaga vs U San Francisco game on tv and they announced that they were building a newborn arena to take the place of the old 6000 seater.

I know drawing 1,932 to a 4,280 seat arena, doesn't necessitate a larger facility.

Of course. Anderson Arena was basically the same size and they NEVER consistently filled that either in its 51 years.

Bowling Green still has a population of under 31k. There's simply no need for anything bigger.

If you want to ***** about the architecture or the fact that it has the unique(?) characteristic of being a square building, have at it, but criticizing the seating capacity is just moronic rivalry noise.

Good for Gonzaga. Hopefully they don't lose the intimacy and intimidation of the kennel. But I don't know that I'd call it "old" It was opened in 2004, not even 20 years ago. And FWIW - The Savage renovation and downsizing for basketball seating happened in 2008.
