Good ball club. I forgot what inning it was Sunday, but a couple of their players found a hole along the foul lines and punched it in where it was barely fair (or in my opinion) and was getting on base.. Didn't help our pitching seemed to be off or Illinois has some great hitters in the rotation.
But hopefully this is a wake up call and happened early enough for adjustments to start being made.
Yeah its baseball sometimes you get hit on the head while looking down at someone. I am still amazed at the fact you guys find a good to great pitching staff every year at least since i was following the game. I don't know how you guys do it but that's some good talent you always have handy. Can't wait to see you guys make the trek and play ball in Norfolk.

Luckily they kept y'all in the Top 25. Think that speaks to how good y'all are and how good Illinois possibly is or can be.

It's called "The Wizard of Oz". He was offered the LSU Pitching Coach and Tulane Head Coach jobs in the offseason and stayed on as he's the HC in waiting at USM and he likes his situation.

Good for you guys.
I was hopeful that we wouldn't have much drop off from last years pitching staff but looks like we had a little drop off. Maybe by mid season OZ will have them humming. Our bats need to improve as well.

Wasn't as bad as the 38-36 tournament final between Georgia Southern and Georgia State in 2015.

You might be speaking a bit soon. The youth is definitely starting to show.
This is, by far, the biggest rebuild in terms of a pitching staff that I can remember in a while.
Other than Tanner Hall, we returned 4 pitchers from last year's staff. And I'm not talking about experienced pitchers. I mean everyone. And of those, one threw 5 innings last year and another 14 (and only like 24 in his 2 year career). The other two have been here since 2020 and only had significant roles sporadically last season.
Oz has been incredible at developing pitchers....but he's done it working with guys for 1, 2, or 3 years. It's not like they are instantly great as true freshmen.
The other thing, too, is that we had an incredible--and probably unsustainable--hit rate on JUCO pitchers for a few years. It is early, but it looks like the ones this year may be a bust.
