I will never cheer for Toledo unless it directly impacts NIU getting to the MACC. The OOC game on Sept. 2 has no impact on NIU.

Nice that Toledo got 4 home games in a row. Must be because they've already been declared the winner of the 2023-24 recruiting battle.

It never occurred to me before today how similar the logos are for SIU and Western Michigan.

Really seems odd to have Toledo as our conference opener.

There's some big-time payback due in Akron.

If I’m counting correctly there are seven teams who have five home games

Definitely an indicator of what they think of our prospects this year. Otherwise we'd be playing them in November as usual.

I think this is Kent State's easiest OOC schedule in awhile.

That is impressive.

Sadly we’d sell out but it’d probably be at least 1/3 ISU.

NIU would sell out the stadium against Iowa State? I doubt it. The last couple power schools that played at NIU had weak attendance. I do not see Iowa State changing that.

On this note, athletics dropped an update video last week which specifically mentioned that the fans wanted power teams in DeKalb and when games were scheduled the fans did not show up in the stands. Basically should not expect to see another power team in DeKalb for a very long time. Sounds like the focus is now going back toward playing a regular Chicago game over investing in power teams coming to campus.

Is 6 years a long time since Mizzou is coming to DeKalb in 2029?

It is a long time since a lot of us on the board are over 70.

Who knows but I would say that game has a greater chance of being moved to Chicago than happening on campus. Remember NIU also tried to move the BYU game a few years back. I would assume if the strategy is to play more Chicago games going forward then Missouri would seem to be the type of opponent you would expect to see in one of those games.

I think the Missouri game will be moved if it shows that a lot of Tiger fans are looking for tickets. Otherwise NIU would have scheduled a Chicago home game with the original game contract.

The BYU game being moved was to see if they can get more NIU alumni to a P5 game if it was in the Chicago area.

We sold out last time Iowa State played at Huskie Stadium, I remember being elated at the sound of people hawking tickets outside the gate. That was a different vibe back then, need that vibe back, starts with new leadership.

That was a different time back then. People just don't attend the games anymore. I'd bet we'd have a hard time filling the stadium for Georgia. There seems to be a lot more apathy from fans these days. I do heartily agree that we need new leadership, however. Nothing will change under the current leadership.
