I would highly doubt a guy coming off of a 4 year/$72M contract is going to play for league minimum……Giants had to pay him $4.5M in order to release him.

They paid him $4.5 to make him go away.. that should tell you his worth right now. Maybe it won't be the exact league minimum but it will be a very small contract if he's in the league at all.

Well, no actually. They paid him the $4.5M so they wouldn’t have to pay him the $36M that was still owed under the contract. They only had two options: pay him the buyout or the remaining $36M. I don’t think the $4.5M establishes his current worth at all.

My point is just proceed very cautiously. It is really concerning how dramatically his production dropped off a cliff immediately after “getting paid”.

Zero need, desire for a WR going on 30 with 23 games played and 3 td in 3 years.

Exactly why I would not have signed him 3 years ago and actually laughed at the money they gave him and would not sign him now. Taking up a body of a player who that may actually produce, be part of the future. Exactly what they did last year with the bodies they signed.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of any WR who was successful early then had 3 trash seasons in a row only to rebound and be great again. I’m sure there’s been one but no one comes to mind.

RE: Bears need Golladay
Remember when the Bears drafted Kevin White in the first round? What a gigantic bust. 8 years in the league and he has less than 400 career receiving yards.

Golladay was a 3rd rd pick and has almost 3,700 career receiving yards. The Lions got all his production but he also had Matt Stafford as his QB his entire time with the Lions.

the new coach at NY didn't like him. that may have been because of performance or lack or performance, or it may be personal, or just he wanted in his first year to clean house. who knows. Only time will tell. Golladay gets a new life, and if he is physically able, I am sure he will make the most of it. I am sure he is worth taking a flyer by someone. Maybe the Raiders.

If memory serves me right, Golladay was a pretty decent downfield blocker which would be a great asset when Fields gets in the open. On top of having great hands, i definitely think the Bears should take a flyer on him.

I agreed.. that's literally what I said above, wouldn't be bad to have in the room, he'll just be very cheap.

that's pretty funny. He is getting torn up in the release articles "one of the worst FA signings in history" or the like is in most of them.

Bears don't need him. I would take a flyer though. Incentive based contract. If you have over 50 catches $500k bonus. Over 1000 yards, S1 million bonus or something along that line

Technically, he will not be released until March 15, which is the first day of the new NFL year.

Given his injury history and lack of production, I would proceed very cautiously. His last two years with the Giants were a complete disaster. Plenty of due diligence would be required first.

I can see him joining the XFL honestly, he got paid and lazy it would seem. He needs to prove himself

If he's got a thirst to play, sure. Otherwise he could just retire early and continue being rich.

The Bears can use Golladay......as well as help in every other position. Maybe then they can become a mediocre team.

The Bears already have a disaapointing 6'4" WR whom they are over paying, Chase Claypool. They don't need another one.
