RE: Convo Naming Rights
Realistically, who would want to take naming rights and why? The average attendance for sporting events is under 1k. They don't have big name acts coming through or even small conventions.
What percentage of student population never go to Convo in their 4 years?

Its not just the attendance. Once branded the name goes in all social media outlets. I agree the worth is not high, but just like a YouTube Channel you can monetize it for something. Maybe at least a new golf cart?

I was going to see suggest the Schaefer Beer Convocation Center but I thought that would be too narcissistic. So I went with the next worst cheap beer of Wisconsin Club.
But i heat you, Wisconsin should not be associated with anything in Illinois.

Too bad Illini Tire went out of business. Their name would have been perfect on the Convocation Center sign.

you're on to something. maybe one of the other universities would like naming rights to the convo. "University of Illinois Urbana Champaign Convocation Center at Northern Illinois University" really rolls off the tongue.

RE: Convo Naming Rights
So what does everyone think the minimum for naming rights should be and who would pay that amount for the rights?

ISU is 3.1 million over 10 years.
https://www.wglt.org/local-news/2022-10-...efcu-arena
Ideally? 6-7 million over 10 years.
Realistically? 4-5 million over 10 years
This is based on looking at other college arenas in areas Dekalb's size and programs close to NIU's reputation.

RE: Convo Naming Rights
One of the big problems - which I think was already brought up - is visibility. Unless you are driving specifically to the Convo, there are very few cars driving further west out of (or east into) DeKalb. Therefore, there would be fewer people seeing any signage. There would need to be a lot of advertising and recognition of the new sponsor to make it worthwhile.
IMO, I do not see there being a sponsor in the near future. Should the team(s) get really good, the Convo starts to fill up, and there is a buzz around campus, then maybe there is a possibility. Until then, I just don't see it.
I love the Convo whether or not it has a corporate name attached to it. I remember the excitement of when it was built and we went inside to select our seats. That was a lot of fun. I was so glad to get out of the high school-like Evans Fieldhouse. This was finally getting to "big time". It's just a darn shame that the basketball team never allowed that excitement to continue. With the horrid play of our teams, no one wanted to go to the Convo and watch it - and you can't blame them. Let's hope things improve to where fans will come back and we can finally induce a sponsor to part with their money.

I know ISU used to but I don't think they are getting the concerts anymore.
Iowa State and Hilton Coliseum used to get all the big shows but they all go to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

They could give the naming rights to Nathan's or Vienna or Oscar Mayer for free hot dogs for fans, which might increase attendance.

In the past 24 hours, I've gone on both TicketMaster and Stub Hub and searched CEFCU Arena and Banterra Center and both return "Sorry, there are no events for your location".
So, outside of basketball and the occasional job fair, I'm not sure what any of those buildings are hosting nowadays.

The NIU Convocation Center has been open for 21 years. We're still a baby when it comes to our neighbors.
Also...I don't know why its taken so long but a company willing to just give the athletic program money would be super nice.
I know people had their hearts set on Amazon or something but Monsanto makes the most logical sense but that company is evil so they probably don't want to give any money away.
I didn't put 2 and 2 together when you mentioned Monsanto, but to have the flying corn cob painted on the roof of the Convocation Center would be awesome!
Bayer bought the DeKalb seed division from Monsanto in 2017.

Monsanto is gone. Bayer bought it.
In September 2016, German chemical company Bayer announced its intent to acquire Monsanto for US$66 billion in an all-cash deal.
After gaining US and EU regulatory approval, the sale was completed on June 7, 2018.
