RE: What are the Pac schools waiting for?

It’s now July and the Pac still doesn’t have a deal. SDSU is staying in MWC signaling the Pac deal is not imminent (or the Pac is not expanding).
The Pac has been looking for a deal for a year. Does it make sense for them to keep searching for a deal? Given the current landscape, offers won’t get any better if not worse in my opinion. The Pac is like an unsold unattractive house in buyer’s market. It’s more likley that their price woud keep going down instead of going up. So why don’t the Pac leaders accept the defeat and take whatever a bad offer they got so far?
The delaying doesn’t make sense UNLESS some schools have alternative plan.
This leads me to speculate that some of Pac schools are just trying to buy time. So again what are the Pac schools waiting for?
Obviously the B10 would be their first choice. The B10 is not expanding at this point unless ND decides to join. So ND might be one reason. Another possible scenario I can think of is while the B10 is not willing to expand, they may have to intervene in case the Pac collapses. No I don’t believe in “bloody on their hand” theory but I can see the B10 steps in if some of 4C schools join the B12 and their future target schools (Oregon, Washington, Stanford) have no choice but to sign the long term GoR with the ACC.
Speaking of the ACC, does anyone know what’s going on with them? People on this board didn’t give much thought to the ACC expansion but Phillips himself said that the ACC leadership has been discussing the expansion FREQUENTLY. I think it’s possible that the pro expansion group has enough votes now to make a move. So this might be another possible reason for delay.
We will see. Hopefully I don’t have to bump in August.
GK is not going to present a deal unless he feels he's got a reasonable shot at the votes for it. He's talked to the constituent Presidents and ADs. He has a good feeling for what it will take for them to stay put.
That he hasn't presented a deal means that he doesn't have something that he thinks will pass.
So he keeps working on it. And the schools are giving him time. After all, they prefer to stick together absent a Big 10 offer.
And prudence dictates that they don't make any moves until they have all the information on how lucrative it would be to stay put. By not presenting a deal, GK keeps them on the hook.
However, GK jumps the shark if he doesn't present a concrete deal before Pac 12 media days. If he lets their annual media gathering kick-off become a TV deal/defection inquest, it will be obvious to every Pac 12 administrator that he doesn't have the goods. Those will solid options (like the Big 12) will start to throw in the towel and choose to NOT wait for the final numbers.
Im pretty sure they already know he doesnt have the goods. But---because they would prefer to stay together and dont believe a delay causes any damage to their potential options----they are fine with giving George extra time in the hopes he might stumble into a magic deal capable of saving the Pac12.

Add this to the list of possible delay factors: the earthquake at ESPN.
