Seems like there should be a game played each year on this day between the two universities in at least Men's Basketball as well as Women's.

Not sure how many were played, but pretty sure we never beat them in that game. Would be cool to bring that back.

Buzz Killington here, but probably more interest from coaches/administration about focusing on closing out the season and posturing for conference tournaments/postseason.

I love the idea though.

Use to happen in the early 1990s but think it has been awhile since this occurred. From what I recall, GW lost interest in this game and no longer wanted to play it especially with it being so late in conference play (which does make sense).

I for one would not want the mens or womens bball team playing on short rest after playing on Saturday and again on Short Rest on Wednesday this week with some important games to close out the regular season that in almost all seasons would have significant meaning. Whereas a President's Day game vs GW would have zero significance and importance at this point of the season.

Yeah it's a cool thought that doesn't end up so great in reality coming down the final stretch of conference play.

But what would that do to our NET? Which sucks that that is the current thinking. There could also be a mini, four team President's Day weekend tournament in DC. GW, JMU, GMU, American, Navy, and maybe a few others could rotate in and out. Admittedly that would require more coordination with different conference offices, but man would that be something!

No thanks.....no team is going to want any part of a 3 day tournament at the end of conference scheduling with the conference tournament on the horizon.

This might look good on paper somewhere or on a message board....but would be of no real benefit to anyone.

I think our RPI/NET/etc.....is a lot better than it has been in years and guess what win and it gets a lot easier to schedule in the future.

NET rank as of today, seems not helpful. Would also be a distraction from the upcoming game with Marshall, which is far more impactful.

Sorry, I was more thinking it sucks that the main thought is "What would this do to our NET" not that our NET currently sucks. I'll update my post to clarify.

We could just invite W&L up for the afternoon and beat them silly in lieu of practice.

RE: Why is there not a Standing Presidents Day Game between GW and JMU?
I think this is a no-brainer.

Get agreement from ESPN to make it a feature game on President's Day. Do Home/Home and have both teams share media rights for the game outside of the respective conferences.

Back it up with a H/H in a non-revenue sport and it could be a nice deal. Especially, if you put the latter on a ESPN+ stream the same day with a live look in (baseball/softball maybe).

We want opportunities to showcase for DC talent and would love chances for the DC Metro Dukes to do a road game. I would guess GW is blocking it more than us, based on our lack of basketball prowess. I think the FBS and Carnegie classification change - make our profile different.
