Yeah- either something has clicked for them or maybe they got an injured player back?
Another thing to consider, as the seeding takes shape this week, is that there are a few schools that "could" travel well-if they think they could win the Tourney. Another reason to hopefully avoid So. Alabama's side of the bracket, as they are only an hour from Pensacola. Southern Miss and Troy are about 2.5 hrs away. Everyone else is 5+ hours away.

RE: what has gotten into .....
JMU is locked into, at worst, a 4 seed at this stage by virtue of ODU's win over App and JMU's win over UL.
At this stage, I'd put JMU's odds at
2 seed: 20%
3 seed: 30%
4 seed: 50%
Marshall game will likely be pick em, but I have to be honest, I dont like JMU chances as much as I did against UL. Georgia State is a very likely win. That team is a mess.
As such, if the above holds, UL sweeps two remaining winnable games, JMU would fall to 4 seed. If UL splits, JMU is 3 seed.
Should JMU sweep the remaining 2, 2 seed is locked and loaded regardless of what anyone else does.
Thats a great position to be in.
In any of these iterations, a USA game could be on the table as early as round 3!! If it happens, I'd much prefer to see that in round 4 and beyond as opposed to round 3...

Lol
It's a delicate balance in order to maintain it.

I’m just glad we’re discussing top 4 and a first-round bye. I’m glad we but ODuh twice. I’m glad the women are taking no prisoners. We’ve taken our “CAA talent” and slapped this league in the face. And that’s no disrespect to some great teams in the SBC. It’s our kids and coaches stepping up. JMU being good helps everyone. The SBC needs that second bid to separate itself from the unwashed masses.

Yep - I was concerned we might be entering the new conference while our athletics were dipping, but that has not been the case.
Women's softball is dipping, and JMU baseball has remained consistent, but all the other major sports have have been solid contenders.

The last three have been the biggest blowouts, but really you can go back a couple weeks farther than that. They've won 7 of their last 8, with 6 of those wins by at least 17 points. Average margin of victory in that stretch is 22. The one loss was by just 4 points, on the road at a pretty good Troy team and USA's third road game in a row.
They're playing unbelievable ball right now and for my money, now that the Dukes have locked up a top-4 seed, really the next objective isn't just getting the best seed they can, it's getting whatever slot avoids South Alabama the longest.

My money would be on USA getting the 6 seed with wins in their last two games while ODU drops their last two. Our most likely finishes are the 2 or the 4, if USA does get the 6 then either way would mean we get USA or USM in the semis assuming the three of us make it that far.
If we were to get the 3, which is a long shot, then a 6 seed who wins would get us in the quarters. If USA ends up the 7 they'd get the 2 in the quarters with a win, if they get jumped by App and get the 8 then they'd get #1 in the quarters with a win. That'd probably be the ideal scenario, put USA vs USM right away... Of course assuming Marshall doesn't catch USM. A lot up in the air still!
