That's 54 runs given up in the last 4 games

Due to a family commitment I was only able to watch on ESPN+. But it was like batting practice for both teams before the rain delay and I'm not surprised to read that UC gave up 15 runs and lost. It's hard to argue that pitching is anything short of a disaster right now.

On a brighter note, it did look like a terrific crowd last night which was exciting to see. I can't imagine Miami brought many of those fans.

Finally, broadcast production took a big step back, at least while I was watching. It appeared to be a single camera for the duration and no on-screen graphics for the score or pitch counts. I'm hoping it was an aberration because of technical difficulties on opening night.

I have a feeling we are going to have a new head baseball coach in a couple months.

Based on the early results of this season it's hard to think there will be much success.

UC had its second largest crowd ever last night - 2513. There is a market for UC baseball, but UC needs to embrace it and improve the product on the field.

Googins and Clark-Heard both really showed early promise...their big steps backward the last two seasons have been very disappointing.

Bolded, my feeling too. Granted, the new Big East is an inferior baseball conference, but Googins past success there would have seemed transferable to some degree when moving to a highly ranked baseball conference (American) combined with UC's superior facilities, resources, and higher University profile. I won't discount the possibility of a turnaround this season, but it's hard to believe UC is where we feel it should be at this point in his tenure.

As UC fans, the prospect of Big 12 baseball is truly exciting. But not if the Bearcats can't routinely handle MAC teams, X, and NKU when given the opportunity.

I just can't see taking this staff into next year unless we throw the towel in to decide that a cold weather outlier program isn't going to be able to compete in a much more baseball-centric B12.

RE: UC Baseball
The new Big 12 will be better than the current AAC at baseball, but it's not a night-and-day difference.

In 2022, Massey Ratings lists the Big 12 as the 3rd best conference and the AAC as the 5th.

In 2021, Big 12 was 4th and AAC was 7th.

But Texas & Oklahoma are among the best programs in the Big 12 (they were the top-2 in 2022). Of the four replacements, none have made the World Series in the last 50 years. Only one (Houston) has more than 1 NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 10 years.

I didn't see the game... Were they wearing the "Dallas" uniforms?

SMU is a complete puzzle to me. They have a long history and an instantly recognizable image in the "Pony." Even the letters "SMU" have instant recognition. But they seem to be running as fast as they can from those things...I know the University is putting as much distance as they can between them and the "Methodist" identity.

I just don't get it.

You are in the wrong thread (this is the baseball thread so we played North Alabama).

As to SMU, yes they and TCU are faith based in name only. SMU sued the United Methodist Church a few years ago regarding control of the university. SMU prevailed.

Thanks... I am indeed, in the wrong thread. SMU has been playing basketball in these silly (IMO) "Dallas" jerseys. I just kind of assumed that was what happened today. But I did misread "Baseball" for "Basketball"... My bad.

Very exciting to sweep a series and hoping it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Did anyone here attend the Miami (OH) game? I'm curious as it was listed as record attendance, which is great. But I don't think the folks from Oxford brought all those fans so I'm curious if there was a special promo that night? Our stadium is terrific and "right sized" in my mind. When we get any kind of decent crowd at all it really energizes our team.

They announced a student section of over 1,100...so I'm guessing there was some sort of Student Incentive there.

Love it! I think once students get a taste of it, we'll see interest and attendance grow. It couldn't happen at a better time with the Big 12 on the near horizon.

It'll be interesting...baseball viewership and participation in their demo are both at an all-time low. I think the Reds being as bad as they are could help with attendance at UC though, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to watch a similar product.

So true. Maybe Bearcat baseball can carve out a niche in the Cincinnati sports scene the way the Cyclones have? Taking a family to a UC baseball game will probably cost about 20% of what one would spend for the same event at GABP. Of course that's a richer experience in terms of MLB entertainment. But when our kids were young, baseball downtown was basically sampling as many difference concessions as they could, being bored by the 4th inning, and heading home shortly thereafter.

Lost to SC Upstate today 6-1. UC batters struck out 17 times. They are averaging about 11 per game.
