RE: WBB @ WMU Game Thread
One real bizarre moment in the BG game where the ref called a 10 second violation on NIU, and then looked up at the shot clock and realized only 9 seconds had run off. So, NIU got the ball back out of bounds. Fralick was losing her mind, although I have no idea why. The refs are supposed to use the shot clock these days so I've been told. Weird moment, although thankfully didn't really affect the outcome.

Toledo gives up 22 in first quarter.

Toledo gives up 22 the rest of the game.

That’s awesome.

Despite 22 turnovers, NIU hit 13 triples vs 5 for BG

BG shot horrid from three (18% including Brett's 1 for 10) and still scored 81, so I would not be so quick to elevate NIU's standing. BG shoots even poorly from three, and they probably win fairly easily.

And good to remember that we had NIU down 17 points with 10 minutes to play and folded. UT even had possession of the ball out of bounds after a time out with 8 seconds left so we would get the last shot. And threw away the in bounds pass so NIU could have the last shot and win the game. Good fourth quarter for NIU but a really really bad fourth quarter by UT.

Very different from tonight where NIU had the lead nearly the entire game on BG's floor. And, as you point out, NIU shot great and BG shot poorly. So I would conclude that NIU can beat the best teams in the league but they need some help to do it. The better team has to be off their game. Will be interesting to see how Ball State does at NIU on Saturday.

It's hard to contain Davis without double-teaming, which creates good three-point looks for NIU. Granted, they shot better than usual tonight, but with NIU you really have to pick your poison. If you play Davis straight up, she scores a lot and your centers probably get in foul trouble. If you double her, other opportunities become available. If you look at Northern's lineup, they look like a very good team. To me the mystery is why they have been so awful during the conference season.

Yea I don't get it either. They lost five in a row but have won 3 of the last 4 games. And consistent with everything else about NIU the only loss in the last four was to Ohio which is probably the weakest team in the league.

Q has passed 1800 career points and now has 1815 as she inches closer to Naama's 1874 for 5th place all-time.

Wiard also continued to move up the ranks, as she has passed Santucci for 25th place with 1105 points.

Didn’t the women’s game eliminate the ten second rule for a while?

Well they didn't eliminate it, the women's game never had a 10 second rule originally. The NCAA added it to the game I think around 10-15 years ago.

Those were weird days. You’d have some teams with a player just dribbling in the backcourt for like 15-20 seconds before doing anything.

Anybody know where L. Brewer is? Haven't seen her on the bench the last 2 games.

Announced today she is no longer with the team. They wish her well.

Unfortunate. Perhaps she had off-the-court things to deal with, but others reported she was not happy playing the 5. That was probably not the plan for her until Noveroske hot hurt.

The depth the team thought they had before the season stated has really dwindled after Hannah's and Soleil's injuries and now this.

My guess is she was not happy with the limited minutes. She averaged 21 minutes per game last year with Akron and 11 minutes per game with Toledo. Why would a player transfer to a team where they play less minutes than they did with their former team? As mentioned above the team is now down to 7 effective players plus King who sometimes has an impact on the game.

Had 10 to start the year. Rough when an entire starting lineup is back. Same for next year.

RE: WBB @ WMU Game Thread
On the one hand, the Rockets can function fine without Brewer, as she was the third best player at her position. On the other hand, if we have foul trouble or another injury at the 5, we have a serious problem. There is simply no one else to put there, especially since we don't have a back-up at Sammi's position. Against NIU and Bowling Green, I expect that we will now see frequent double-teams of the post since we don't have as many fouls to give.

I was puzzled from day one that Cullop didn't use Brewer as a back-up at the 4. I have to believe that was the plan when she was recruited out of the transfer portal, given that we already had three centers at the time and that depth at power forward was a real weakness last season (and this season, as it turns out).

Good take!.... That makes sense. Hopefully BG's HC isn't reading your post.

Go Rockets!
