RE: Active shooter on MSU's campus
The guy pleaded down from a felony weapons charge to a misdemeanor a couple years ago thanks to a liberal DA. Dude never should have had access to guns EVER AGAIN IN HIS LIFE after that felony charge. Those calling out republicans as the reason things will never change are wrong. IT GOES BOTH WAYS. BOTH SIDES SUCK.
IMO if you have a felony weapons charge and you agree to plea down to a misdemeanor, you should still lose your rights to a gun. You've already demonstrated that you aren't a responsible gun owner. Don't tell me he still would have found a way to commit the crime. It would have made it a lot harder for him to find a gun. Dude is a coward for killing himself too. I hope he rots in hell.
This has all been very surreal. I had several classes in Berkey Hall over my 5 year stint at MSU. A lot of them around that time of day too because I hated morning classes.
The State of Michigan now has the chance to become a national leader in gun laws. Make it happen, make it revolutionary.

In line with my comment that one should have to show some real responsibility to be able to get a gun. But Republicans won't go for that either, probably because they all think they're "responsible gun owners", even the ones whose child took their gun from the house and killed people with it.

Good to see our young people, who we've forced this way of life upon, making their voices heard. They're lining up in front of the Capitol like their lockdown drills.

The number of deaths should Not be the scope. We’ve had roughly 340k children who were on a campus during a school shooting in this country since columbine. Many of those kids lives have been derailed forever. Many of them don’t get free weekly counseling or other benefits. The problem is larger than the number of deaths.
Solid point. The invisible injuries for many of these kids will linger on, especially if they can't get help.
I picked up my daughter from campus on Tuesday AM to bring her home for a couple of days. The anxiety, the startle reflex, her reaction sirens - especially at night has been heart breaking to watch.

Yooper, so sorry to hear about your daughter's trauma. We can relate, . . . unfortunately.

We have a Democrat Legislature & a Democrat Governor, so I'm hopeful Michigan will make real changes to their gun laws. I guess the Republicans who had control of the state legislature when Oxford happened couldn't get around to doing anything.
