If SMU departs it needs to come back to Memphis.

RE: American Conference tourney
I believe they signed a multi year contract with Dickies Arena. Given how spread our conference is & the fact there will still be at least 3 Texas teams in the conference along with Tulsa & WSU very drivable & Tulane & Memphis in the 7 hour drive range, I have no complaints with it being in Ft worth regularly. As much as I would like it in Memphis, I don’t believe we supported it well enough last time it was here to even complain. I was at every tiger game & attendance was closer to 50% occupancy than 100% for those & probably closer to 10% for the others.

The city of memphis didn’t put together a competitive bid. Hopefully they will next time.

RE: American Conference tourney
aac commissioner did not want the tournament on a teams home court

been to all the tournaments in ft worth, the crowd is light

the arena has tcu stuff in it, tcu uses it for "neutral" court games (just a few miles from their regular arena)

they have a lot of shows at the arena
coming this year

muse, kenny loggins, brooks and dunn, Tedeschi Trucks Band, BRYAN ADAMS, Paramore, ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd
ARCTIC MONKEYS, LUKE BRYAN, SHANIA TWAIN, JASON ALDEAN

along with rodeos and ice hockey

They put together the best bid. The commissioner is going to have the tourney wherever the best bid is. Hope memphis puts a good one together.

Memphis has 1st weekend NCAA games next year, so won't be in Memphis.

unless it is in southaven

maybe they should put in a bid

the landers center is a better arena
than the one in frisco, where the ncaa had the nit

shopping is nearby, hotels and casinos

RE: American Conference tourney
The Conference offices will now be located in an 18,000-square foot space at The Summit at Las Colinas in Irving. The Summit is a 19-story building on 4.1 acres in the Las Colinas neighborhood of Irving and is within 15 minutes of both the Dallas-Fort Worth International and Dallas Love Field airports for convenient access to The American’s member institutions, as well as Dickies Arena, the site of the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship for 2021 and 2022. Other tenants in The Summit at Las Colinas include the College Football Playoff, JP Morgan Chase and General Motors.

“We are excited to begin serving our membership from our state-of-the-art office in Texas,” Aresco said. “The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex is a national epicenter for intercollegiate athletics and allows us to be geographically closer to many of our member schools as well as to the site of our men’s and women’s basketball championships. We look forward to joining our colleagues from SMU, and those from other conferences, the College Football Playoff, the National Football Foundation, the Goodyear Cotton Bowl and Dickies Arena, among other organizations.

“We chose The Summit because it is an attractive and well-managed building in a centralized location with easy access to the nearby airports, and to the desirable residential areas, restaurants and many cultural attractions in the region. We look forward to hosting the visiting membership.”

Not quiet central for Temple, ECU, Charlotte, FAU, UAB, or USF. The AAC commissioner thinks Texas is the center of the universe. He added three more Texas teams to replace the two that left for the bigxii. There are eight of fourteen teams that are not in Texas. Never hire another Texan for the front office. Trying to deal with Texans is like trying to deal with Putin.

How exactly would you compare Texans to Putin? Just curious about your thought process.

Those schools combined wouldn't send a bus load of fans to the conf tournament no matter where it was being held. Same goes for Tulane and UTSA. Heck, San Antone's net ranking may be larger than the # of fans who go to their home games. Tulane's 150 fans who attend their homes games arent going to conf tournament.

When they signed this agreement, Gregg Marshall was at Wichita and they were rolling. Their fans would fill the place up if they had a competitive team. SMU was decent, and would bring a fair amount (maybe 500-1000). Houston and Memphis bring a good # of fans. That's 4 schools within a 6-7 hr drive of FW that could fill up a good portion of the arena. The only school with a supportive fan base outside of that, would be Cincy. Wichita is in the dumpster now along w/ SMU (who may be headed out soon) so it hurts the attendance. Houston leaving hurts future attendance. Ultimately, WSU needs to gets their act together, can Brown and reinvigorate their program and fan base. They would easily bring 6-7k if they were a top 3 seed. the AAC needs them to be top 25 good.

For a 3 year stretch, semi final Saturday always had Mem, Cin, Hou, and WSU. The league got their best brands but the games were in Orlando, Memphis (pretty good crowds), and a Covid crowd in FW. If this league were holding together a few more years, you'd probably have some really good crowds & exciting tournaments because most likely Houston, Memphis, Cincy, and (fingers crossed) WSU would all be in the mix for NCAA births. Now, it's going to be up to Memphis and WSU fan bases to support the tournament in FW going forward. There are just no other schools in the future league who will bring any significant # of fans.

Historically, it seems that it has only been well attended when it is in Memphis.

The new AAC desperately needs Memphis & Wichita to step it up in basketball. The “nationally” significant program is moving on & these two programs have historically proven to be the most capable of picking up the slack. Hopefully, both can get back to being top 25 programs again. Its been a while.

Sure, both the Tigers and Shockers would do well to "step it up" in basketball, but to say the Tigers aren't doing their part right now is a bit uninformed considering they're top 50 in the NET. You must also consider the incoming teams that have been demonstrating an upward trajectory; especially UAB, UNT, and FAU. Both UNT and UAB made the tournament last year to be defeated by Villanova (second round) and Houston (first round) respectively. Currently, FAU is ranked significantly higher in the NET than any team in the AAC aside from Houston.

Every job is coach driven, but Houston, SMU and Wichita are no good at all unless they have an incredible coach. We aren't like that. It is easier to succeed here.
