FBS campuses in sketchy places
What are some FBS/BE campuses you’re putting your life in your hands if you venture out after dark?

In honor of Mike Leach, I think that this topic deserves a deep dive.

It's generally safer in urban than in rural areas. Momma bears might attack you for no reason, a momma human is more apt to just give you a dirty look and aggressively stalk off if you wander too close. So, in that vein, I think that we should focus on schools in very rural areas. Lafayette, Ruston, Murfreesboro...but those are in areas that have been developed for hundreds of years. We need some schools that are far away from civilization. You know what's far away from civilization, and probably has a lot of bears as well? Missoula, Montana. If I walked outside of my dorm in Missoula, I'd want mace, pepper spray, bear spray, and probably a few of those weapons from that Wall of Awesome in The last of Us.

Georgia Tech is pretty safe, Georgia State, not so much. Yale is in a really bad neighborhood.

Don't sleep on Florida State. Frenchtown is next to campus (along with the Greyhound station and an assortment of homeless shelters and other social services) and there's some rough neighborhoods south of campus. Syracuse is similar but has an Interstate in between (for now).

UCLA is definitely in a sketchy place!!!

You must mean USC. The Westwood area where UCLA is located is in one of the safest areas of the city. It was ranked #1 as the best beighborhood in LA in 2022:
https://bungalow.com/articles/best-neigh...california

1. Westwood
Perfect for young single professionals and students of UCLA wanting to move to one of the best areas in Los Angeles.

"Here we are at numero uno! Westwood is mostly known for being the home of the University of California in Los Angeles, or UCLA, for short. This area is so full of students and young professionals that the median age is just 27 years old–not bad if you're young and ready to mingle."

"It’s right next to BelAir and Beverly Hills, two of the most expensive areas in LA. This makes Westwood a pretty safe area. In fact, it's one of LA's safest neighborhoods–giving it a perfect score of five in safety."

USC is definitely in a bad spot. I would be very careful venturing in the neighborhood around campus, especially after dark.

Cal is not in a great spot. Berkeley is a bit sketchy (Berkeley Hills on the backside of campus is very nice however, and that is also near the stadium).

Fresno State, San Diego State and San Jose State are middling. UCLA is in a nice neighborhood and Stanford is in a very upscale neighborhood.

Well, I wouldn't talk down any MAC schools, but I can say that among Northeast Ohio MAC schools, Kent State is definitely not in a sketchy part of Kent, Ohio.

People have gotten assaulted on the Georgia Tech campus and in their buildings. The newer buildings on the opposite side of the freeway is definitely in a high crime area. Its basically just the other end of downtown Atlanta from Georgia State.

Florida you mainly have to watch out for the alligators. They have many live mascots on campus. But I don't know if alligators are nocturnal.

Minnesota should get a dishonorable mention for regression. Still not as bad as others but downtown Minneapolis has gone to **** in the last 20 years.

RE: FBS campuses in sketchy places
Yikes...I've walked from the hotel next to Coca-Cola Plaza, right on the edge of the Georgia Tech campus, down the street to the Varsity. I didn't feel unsafe, but there are worse areas in downtown Atlanta. I'll have to remember not to do that again.

USC...definitely doesn't fit with the neighborhood around it. USC's surroundings and those of UCLA are polar opposites.

Agreeing with the poster who mentioned Houston and Temple. I've been to both, and this is true.
