I counted 12 and forgot math. I’ve done it before, but that was the first time it made it past proofreading. No harm meant.

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
It is Baylor tonight for the Wildcats. I wish midweek games used starters but I understand why pitchers need rest. I suppose both teams use backups in these non-conference situations, but it would be interesting to see how frontliners would square off. While we beat last year's runner up Big12 team, we lost to another one. In talking to a player, he said he thought the game could have been won, but when both sides are resting players there is no way to know.

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
Baylor is really down this year, fyi. So what I’m saying may not apply, but …
There’s little difference in hitting at the DI level. But the bigger schools generally have better pitching depth. That’s how they get separation from “lower” seeded teams and their conference. However, in UTA’s last tourney appearance (over a decade by now ), the midweek games were good to us as we would have finished as Big 12 champs that year based on our record against them. It helped us secure a decent seed.

Sam Houston took down U of Houston in Huntsville for game 1 of the Don Sanders Cup. Bats continued to be hot. Looking forward to our game with NMSU on Friday in Huntsvegas. :)

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
Lopes drop one to UArizona in extras last night. GCU seriously needs to figure something out with this pitching staff. Literally only one starter I trust to take the mound and consistently do his job. Avitia has not looked like the same freshman hurler that took the conference by storm last season. Talented arms in the pen, but every single one seems equally as likely to implode as they are to dominate. It's tough to watch most nights, but really hopeful that a few guys figure out some things along the way & lock in come mid-late April and heading into the WAC tournament in May.

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
With Sam Houston (74), GCU (78), and ACU (79) all ranked in the ELO in the seventies, the WAC is extremely tight and competitive near the top. The RPI is spread out more, and I suspect some other WAC schools could emerge higher as the season progresses.

UTRGV fell to Texas State in what felt to be a very winnable game. 1st inning with a runner on third and one out somehow did not come in to score. TX ST hits a grand slam in the second inning to make 6-0 and from it was catch-up time but too little too late as the game finished 6-5. On to Tarleton State at home for a three-game series.

Good game y'all! Looks like we had plenty of runners LOB as well and somehow we went cold on y'alls bullpen after going ham on the starter. Sounds like an interesting game though! Wish I could have watched. Good luck going forward.

ACU takes first game against A&M Corpus Christi 9-7. Logan Britt hits three home-runs for the Wildcats, while Grason Tatrow hit his 8th of the season. Tomorrow is Nebraska and then A&MCC again on Sunday.

Well, UTRGV run rules the Texans tonight... I am not going to read too much on that result at least for now. Middle game tomorrow.

RE: 2023 WAC baseball
GCU pulls away from UVU for good late in Game 1 to claim the 11-2 win. Lopes mixing things up with pitching, as our usual Sunday starter (Markl) instead comes on in relief today. Now I'm curious to see who gets the ball on Sunday. RHP Brodie Cooper-Vassalakis was strong in relief for Avitia last week and does have starting experience, so maybe the veteran Aussie showed enough to get another chance at it. Hoping Daniel Avitia shows up for Game 2 looking like the 2022 version of himself.
