1 Vanderbilt - if you would have told me that WFU and Vandy played regularly for the last 20 years I would have believed you. I was surprised that they took a long break in the series between 2014-2021, it felt like an annual game and a natural rivalry. The games between 2005-2013 were on rivalry weekend, so it had a little more juice. I know that Wake-Vandy play in 2023, but I’m not sure what’s happening after that. Please continue the series.

2 Duke - I’m glad this game was kept as an annual in the ACC divisionless format. I always liked the synergy in this game, it just feels right.

3 Army - there is something about the matching uniform colors that is pleasing aesthetically. With Army involved it has a throw back feel.

4 NCSU - if I was not annoyed with both schools I might find this game closer to #1. It has the trappings of a great rivalry, but neither school’s primary rival.

5 VT - UVA has UNC, so if I had to make another pairing I think VT would do the trick. Both schools are also fairly close, so I command you to be rivals.

1. NC State- State is best our best rivalry in football. Being in the same division moved it ahead of UNC. The ACC screwed us in not making them an annual opponent going forward.

2. UNC- Our oldest rival and one that is important enough to play as a non-conference opponent. The ACC screwed us when they split us into separate divisions and screwed us again when they didn’t fix that by making us annual opponents.

3. Duke- This rivalry would be more intense if Duke gains a bigger football fan base. Glad the ACC has kept us together.

4. Appalachian State- Those guys hate us for some reason. It makes for good crowds and atmosphere though. We don’t inspire that level of passion outside of Tobacco Road.

5. VT- Proximity could make it good rivalry if the games are competitive.

6. Vandy- A fine game and fun location to visit. There’s no passion in the rivalry.

Interesting take from a Wake fan. Different strokes for different folks. I should have thought of App State, I could see that being fun and competitive.

Don't worry.

The 3-5-5 format is only temporary. It will go to 5-4-4 when the ACC goes to 9 conference games, which it will as soon as the SEC does -- and that day is coming sooner, now that Texas and Oklahoma are joining the SEC one year early.

With a 5-4-4 ... Wake could have UNC, NC State, Duke, and 2 others EVERY YEAR.

So just be patient. You'll have your rivalries restored shortly.

And some how Wake and UL will still get paired.
