Injury Updates
I wish we could get any kind of injury updates from our teams. Literally zero updates are ever offered up. Honest question, is that just how college athletics work or is NIU more tight lipped on injuries more than other schools.
Love to know where K. Williams, X. Amos, Lombardi, Joiner & Rudolph are all progressing just to name a few.

I think no one cares enough about NIU. We aren't like an LSU, where there's a team of writers working on us all year. The most indepth coverage we get, is a free podcast held by the Huskies on Tap guy.

The problem is, it only takes one question in a post-game interview or press conference. If they don't have an answer or don't want to answer, fine. But often the question doesn't get asked. And when there are just a couple of people in the room asking questions, they aren't competing for time and voice.
We also don't have a podcast that is covering basketball like it does football so some of the insight and coaches show/access and access to players is simply not there.
I know it's a time commitment and Brandon doesn't get paid to do it so I'm not being disparaging toward him for not covering it. And I'm sure if someone wanted to step up and be a basketball contributor on his podcast, he'd be welcome to the help.
Which then leads me to another question. Am I to assume our student body is so apathetic that there isn't one (1) student in the entire school (not even just considering the school of journalism) who isn't interested in being a part of a podcast which probably has established connections to the athletic department?
Not one?
I know Brandon also works at the radio station and has started doing play-by-play for local high school football games and has stated that his experience working on the podcast has helped him in his career aspirations. So, seems like this would be a great opportunity for a student to latch on to and create a portfolio of work and gain experience and have some fun.

I mean, probably not. We have the lowest attendance in the country.

RE: Injury Updates
Since college athletics are not required to issue any kind of injury updates like professional leagues are, most coaches don't comment on injuries period. Some of them think it's a competitive advantage thing others just think it is the athletes private business. To others points above, with bigger programs you usually do get more info, because there are SO many more people in and around the program that things inevitably leak.

I may be mistaken but I thought the injury report for the pros was partially related to gambling. Maybe it’s why the bigger collegiate programs may give more injury updates…idk. Just speculating.
