Dallas Fort Worth has a TV market of 3,042,000 households vs. Memphis's 644,000. Nearly 5 times larger. Even if SMU games only draw a quarter of the share of local viewership, they would still draw a larger total audience than Memphis. The average viewer would also be more affluent, based on regional incomes and alumni (certainly the average SMU alum out-earns the average UofM alum).

The good news is that it would take away another competitor for the G5 playoff spot.

SMU gonna join the Pac 12 just in time for it to implode and the 4 corners schools leave for the Big 12. The new Big 12 commish has said he wants further expansion when Texas and OU leave and those 4 schools will be the prime targets if the new Pac tv deal sucks

Why would the PAC 10/12 media deal suck? They still have major media markets in their footprint & are looking to add Dallas.

Maybe… but the schools that comprise it are largely “the state university” in states with large population centers. They’ll get every bit as much as the Big 12, possibly more. The current # on the table is $25 million per school with the league pushing for $40 million; so the # will likely land in the 30+ million range & in line with the Big 12.

UCF SMU played a national ESPN2 game in 2022 with 866k people in the entire country watching. How in the heck is SMU supposedly bringing 700k TV sets in Dallas?

It is when you play your game without any competition and there’s only 5 power conf CG. The only reason they aren’t 5th of 5 is the ACC and Big 10 played at the same time.
