Relevant to Toledo Baseball, Cincinnati just hired the CMU head coach...could knock a primary competitor down a peg.

It would be interesting to know who controls the games at 5/3 Field. I know they are UT home games, but who determines the opponent? My point is that I think UT should have their home series with BG at Scott Park and get Ohio State and Michigan to rotate for a game each year. The crowds would be bigger, and why give a team we are recruiting against the opportunity to play in a AAA stadium and use that as a recruiting tool? Now if the Mud Hens control the participants, that's a different story.

The Mud Hens own the stadium, so they control who plays there. I believe they see this as a community event rather than a recruiting advantage (and another way to try to generate some ticket revenue).

The Lucas County Commissioners (Lucas County residents) floated the bonds to pay for the stadium. I don't see them "owing" anything to Wood County, since UT is in Lucas County and likely the great majority of fans come from Lucas County. From watching the last game on TV, the attendance was very poor. Bring in name teams. Or, for those who are too sensitive, rotate BG, Michigan and Ohio State.

It was billed and marketed as the Battle of I75 and seemed like a pretty good spirited crowd there Friday night (until rainout washed all that away), perhaps there is just not enough interest in local college baseball for large number of fans to attend games on beautiful May weekend. And yes I know MudHens can draw but at least they have solid fanbase and season ticket holders to draw from, UT baseball does not.

If held in future I just don't see UT baseball or Mudhens likely to change it up by bringing UM or OSU in. Seems like they are sold on the Battle of I75 hook.

UT gives up a home conference game to play at a neutral site. BG gives up nothing and gains an advantage by playing at a neutral site. If I were the UT coach I would tell the Hens I wanted to pause the game at 5/3. Maybe BG will drop their program again.
The teams play one game each year at 5/3 (two this year because of the rainout), so it all evens out in the end. Next year, BGSU will lose a home game, & UT will give up nothing and gain an advantage by playing at a neutral site. As someone mentioned, there was a good crowd there for the Friday-night game before it was rained out, & it was going to be a great atmosphere for BG and UT players alike.

Field/stands/dugout actually look halfway decent.

3 different colors of dirt is odd. I don't like the dark dark infield. I'm being picky tho. Does this move us from worst baseball facilities to 9th?

I hate the turf infield, but when you have to play games in February and March, it gives the team a place to practice when its not sub zero.

I think it moves us up higher. How many schools have a team building and indoor hitting facility next to the field.

BTW, what's with the softball field. They put in a new pressbox and scoreboard, but never replaced any branding/logos on the dugouts/padding. Not to mention some signage on the pressbox. Should be relatively inexpensive.
