Although I don’t have have any glam shots/renderings of building that are going up, we’ve had some recent news that is huge for UL: we just finalized a deal with OLOL to purchase the land where their former hospital was located. This means that we’ve not only increased the footprint of our land-locked school by `20 acres, it also means we’ve secured a ‘link’ between our main campus and the athletic campus about 1.5 miles away. It also means we can and will be expanding our health sciences programs which holds a bunch of possibilities for us.
The location was actually broken into 2 parts, with a smaller piece that used to house some Medical Office Buildings, 2 large parking towers, a fitness center, etc., that was owned by the Diocese of LFT and that we completed purchasing couple of months ago. Those MOB’s will house classroom space for the nursing program, with classes slated to start there this fall.
The former hospital was demolished about 10 years ago, so it is now just undeveloped land….with tons of possibilities for further health-science related expansion. It also another large parking tower and other areas for parking lots, etc., which is all really needed as on-campus parking is a big issue for us.
Sorry for the long post, but this is just an historical moment for us, and we are extremely excited about it!
