RE: FIU Panthers
We completely reverted back to the team that was struggling the last several weeks. Bad coaching, bad shot taking, bad decision making, horrible amount of turnovers. Any confidence I had on this team has evaporated after this game. It blows my mind how a team can look so good for 2 1/2 games playing a certain way, being calm, slow, compose, and controlled, and then come out against an awful team and look so god awful.

RE: FIU Panthers
6-19 and 15 turnovers from Gaines and jelly. This game was an abomination from them. Coaches will use tape of this game to teach players how not to play the game. I’m honestly flabbergasted.
2.5 steps forward, 10 steps back today

Outside of Jelly and Gaines, the team looked pretty good. Those two though….. woof.

We would have lost literally anyone other game on our schedule today. God awful. Huge step back at the team showed a pulse and made a little progress.

RE: FIU Panthers
I don’t want to call it out as “showboating” but it seems that any time we get a dunk/3/&one…something that makes the crowd/bench go wild, the next 3 trips down the floor all 5 players are looking to get their moment. Just stay within ourselves and get some layups or easy shots then we’re up by 14 and cruising.

RE: FIU Panthers
FIU is just that type of matchup for us. That’s two double digit second half leads blown. To me the worst sequence in the second half was when we were nursing a 6 point lead with about 5 minutes to go. Three straight quick trips down the floor with no points. Just weren’t smart with the basketball today, but FIU does a good job of making you play that way. Good luck to the Hair and his team, and hopefully we don’t see them again.

Also good crowd (5,318). Hopefully we keep seeing those types of numbers.

RE: FIU Panthers
My big question from today....why did AK change the starting lineup and remove Gaines, after he played his best game of the year two nights earlier? A few weeks ago we were all expecting some lineup changes to wake the team up, and he stayed with the same five (without Jelly). Then, when we start playing well, and Jelly comes back, and we have some momentum, he sends Gaines to the bench for the first time all year.
I understand inserting Jelly back into the starting five, but removing Gaines? And I get sometimes, especially with his substitution patterns, it's not so much who starts but who finishes, and how many minutes they play. But there is something to be said for giving a guy who seems to have a fragile mindset some confidence, instead of waiting till he plays his best game and then benching him.
There may have been other circumstances, but I haven't heard anyone mention them.
To me, it looks like AK outcoached himself there.

Brewer brothers went 4-4 from downtown. Jelly and Gaines had 15 turnovers. Davis and Jemison combined for 23 points. FIU scored 44 second-half points. FIU’s four-game winning streak was broken by UAB. FAU’s 20-game winning streak was broken by UAB. We averaged over 5,000 in attendance both games. Jelly is back. It was a good week.

Back to back games of 5000+ for attendance is great. Thought there'd be a drop-off to go along with the quality of the opponent today, so I was surprised to see we had more than Thursday. Good sign for the future.

The family/kid promotion was a big success. There were a lot of young faces in the house. And most of them stayed to the end, which was a surprise. Concessions were a nightmare with all those folks getting their popcorn/drink combo, but I hope we made some new Blazer fans today.

The postgame feed was in and out, but AK said something about someone being late for a team function and I took that as it was Gaines and that’s why he didn’t start today.

Thank you. Assuming it was him, that answers that. And kudos to AK for trying to enforce some discipline.
