This is true. But also during the CUSA years, JMU sucked, and it wasn't a conference game. In the 90s, before VCU joined the CAA, JMU was THE rival and there were some fierce battles with lots of fans. Over 9,000 showed up at Scope to see a game when Lefty was still coach. When this rivalry gets heated up again, and both teams are at a high level simultaneously, this game should get close to VCU level intensity and interest.

I agree with this. Our ball handing issues scare me. We have been pretty loose with it lately. However, on the flip side, if we can solve the ball handling issue we should get some good drives to the basket.

I know turnovers have plagued just about everyone on the team at times, but I think if Jenkins can manage to tighten it up a little the confidence will reverberate throughout the team. It seems like when he starts turning the ball over it infects everyone.

My understanding is JMU has quite a few fans in the area. I would think some of them could show up for a Thursday night game. I guess we shall see.

I agree... there was a time when JMU was every bit, if not more, of a rival than VCU. Especially, after "the shot" SMH

Monarx, that was one of the BEST GAMES ever at SCOPE. Back and forth all game long. ODU won 92-88.

Keith Jackson went 8-10 from the 3point Line, had 33 points.
Petey "why is his number not retired" Sessoms went 7-9 from deep and had 31 points.

Good thing too since they held both Odell and Mario Mullen to only 6 points each. We shot 13-14 from the foul line too, btw.

One of my very early games as a Monarch. They handed out heckle sheets and bald wigs. The crowd was insane. Great memories.

If I remember correctly most of Keith Jackson's 3's were in the second half... we had a run to put them away. Great game, loud crowd, tension... everything that makes a rivalry.

IIRC attendance started dropping off due to JMU consistently sucking and not competitive. Maybe we can renew the interest

Hopefully we'll soon be playing them with conference championships at stake.

As stated, they haven’t been coming in big or even decent numbers in recent years. Not sure I see any reason why tonight would be any different. Now if it was on a Saturday, sure.

Well, here's hoping for a strong environment tonight. If you're on the fence, carry your butt out to the game. Hoping it will be fun. Having trouble focusing on work.

Last word I heard was that he was gonna give it a go with a brace but, that may not be accurate.

I think it’ll be a very solid crowd. It’s frat sorority night so the student section should be more full than usual and a lot more engaged.

More often than not, if we're expected to lose, WE LOSE. Syracuse W comes to mind as an anomaly.

We’re 5-3 ATS as the underdog. The spread is only 2 right now. We are 14-3 SU in the last 17 games at home. I’ll take those odds every day and bet the under.
