RayJ Stirs The DrinK!
We’ve had a lot of great Point Guards come through the Program over the years (Rudley, Reiser, Thames, Brown, Jackson, etc.) but I think you need to put RayJ Dennis up against any of them. While he leads the team in scoring, it is is total control of the offense that makes him such an elite player. He has a knack of knowing when to get other players involved in the offense and when he is needed to score – whether it’s one of his patented turnaround jumpers from the paint or taking it to the rim. His outside shooting comes and goes, but he does not try to force it when it’s not there. Having stellar point guard play is critical, especially in a Mid Major league like the MAC where having quality Bigs is a luxury. He is currently 8th in the country in Assists to Turnover Ratio and 12th in Assists per game. Those Stats are major reasons why Toledo is now third in the country in scoring offense!

It was a different era, and the game was played different, but I think Mr. Reiser was as good as any.
That said, we are lucky to have Ray J and he is without a doubt one of the best to come through Savage.
Now find another Shaw or Boothe.

Nah. It's Naama!

going with Sleepy on this one.
as for the men
1) Reiser-best passer I've ever watched play in person, anywhere
2) Lehman-biggest winning pg in UT history
3) Dennis-best moves, combination of skills-still time to move up
4) Juice-could do it all, only reason he's not higher is that he seemed to mail it in a bit his sr year when that loaded team disappointed
5) Jackson-got us a MAC title, had some great games
6) Payne-quickest PG, got us a MAC title, tainted a bit by the scandle
7) Wade-started as a wing but became a great pg
*Thames was a 5-10 shooting guard who could handle the ball, didn't really play pg.

Juice was a better shooter than Ray J, but shorter and not quite as affective on Defense because of his size. Mar was a high volume guy... I wouldn't put him in a top category for pg. Maybe overall scorer, but as a pg, we were better without him. Arizona State seems to think so too.

With the rest of this year and next season to prove it, I think Dennis may end up being the best all round PG in UT basketball history …

RE: RayJ Stirs The DrinK!
Reiser for me, made everyone better, could have scored much more.. dominated big ten guards. Nick moore has to be in top 10.. you can have JBrown... Jay Lehman got us to the Dance. Rudley so good but had NBA, ABA stars, they were so big and tough...RayJ gets us to the Dance then he will be top 3 or 4 no doubt... need more big games.. no more Daytons

Great List
I'd put Cole at #6. Best pure shooting point guard ever at UT. Maybe best shooting G ever with possible exception of Selgo. I loved watch Cole play. Tremendous shooting form.

I would have Lehman much further down the list. Agree that Reiser and Naama were the best.

I will add that I am not old enough to have watched Rudley and Cole so no offense to those guys if they are listworthy.

I'm guessing you never saw Dana Drew play.

RE: RayJ Stirs The DrinK!
Great Topic,
Reiser- best traditional pass first point, best passer & ball handler of all
RayJ- recency bias but hits all the qualities of a good point
Rudley- fast, could score, 2nd best ball handler
Lehman- didn’t WOW you but was good in all facets
Payne- best defensive point who also could shoot
Juice- clutch shooter
Cole- quick, great shooter, didn’t have a great team around him
Jackson- leader and scorer, not the passer like others
I don’t know how to put them in order but my first 5 are at the top each with different skill sets.
Dana Drew and Naama are in a class by themselves

Now that I think of it, Rayj has some Graig Thames in him, Thames a top 3 explosive dunker of all time, elevating from 5'10 on those 2 handed allyoop slams was memorable. Both kinda hurky jurky and more quick than fast.

Dennis' change of pace and ability to slip a layup underhanded before the defender gets there is impressive.
