No kidding, maybe the NBA is creeping into everyone's mindset on this rest thing. These are super athletic in shape kids and most are between 18-22 years old, why is there so much focus and thought on rest? They play AAU up to college and play every day and sometimes twice a day and get to college and now we always want to rest guys. They can and want to play as much as possible.
It is common sense. If you take the same athlete in any kind of sport and measure their performance at the start, versus after 30 minutes of activity, there will always be superior performance at the start.
It doesn't even have to be 20 minutes. Get any athlete to run four 100m sprints in a row with a 1 minute break, and there will be a big difference in performance. You can force an elite NFL defensive back to take a couple of plays off, just by running a wide receiver deep at him 4 times in a row.
Quote:They play AAU
Most would say that there isn't a single minute of real defense played in any AAU game. High school isn't much better. You can watch hours of Mikey Williams' games and not see any proper defense played. Not a knock on him or anyone else, that's just how it is.

It does make a difference with elite athletes competing against each other. Try walking from the tv to the fridge 5 times in a row. I am sure you will see a major decline in performance.

It's not something coaches do out of the kindness of their heart, it's because players at any level or age play better when well rested. The science is pretty clear. Why overexert players, thus making them less likely to play well going forward, if you don't absolutely need them the way we need KD?

No kidding. I'll take it one step further. You don't even need science. Unless a person isn't human, common sense should be enough to figure it out.

You guys are 2 much------Penny can't win no matter what he does ------either he is playing 2 many players-and needs 2 shorten his rotation---or he is playing his starters 2 much----and not resting them enough
Penny and the AAU organization needs to be sued for player endangerment --------------------EVEN THOUGH THE PLAYERS WOULD BE PLAYING ON THEIR OWN ANYWAY --------Penny and the AAU are abusing them ---even though they CAN/WANT/and DO play everyday as much as possible own their own
Penny can't win with some of you--------------some on here think Haith knows WAY WAY more about BB than Penny------maybe Haith should have told Penny that he is playing them 2 much---------------------apparently Penny has forgotten how tired he was/how tired he got in his playing days----or maybe he is just deliberately wearing out his team

Possibly your most Simple Jack post, ever. Even the real Simple Jack knows that if you run 5 sprints in a row, your 5th will be much slower than your first. Even Simple Jack knows that 99% of D1 teams have more than 9 scholarship players that should be expected to contribute.

Why did Doneal Mack, Andre Allen and Willie Kemp play 40 minutes per game in 2008? Shouldn't Rose and Anderson have played every minute? Why did Mack, Kemp, Sallie and Spoon play 67 minutes in 2009? Shouldn't Tyreke and Anderson have played all of the minutes?
RE: ***The Official Memphis vs Tulsa Basketball Thread***
I drove from Iowa to the game since it's only 6 hours away and I haven't been to a game since Shaq Goodwin played. Also it was my birthday. I was in the second row behind the Tigers' bench. It was very cool to see the game so close. Trust me Penny does get mad. I heard quite a few F bombs in the first half.
Tulsa;s student section is beyond pitiful. The small pep band was actually kind of loud for so few of them. They were good. I thought our crowd was pretty loud but it's a small arena too.
I had no idea about the bomb threat until I read it online this morning before we left to go back to Iowa. It was sleeting like crazy when we left this morning.
I was able to meet KD and DeAndre after the game. They both signed my sign and I got pics with them. DeAndre is the nicest guy ever. It wsa my birthday also. A Tiger win and two big hugs from him(I'm probably one of the few females here). KD is kind of quiet but very nice. He was pretty frustrated with himself in the first half. Our crowd was fun. Conor Glennon is quite the cheerleader. He started the "defense" cheer a few times for us.
Even though I love the hometown atmosphere and the crowd so loud, it was really fun and an interesting take to be so close to the floor. The bonus was meeting these two young men.

Thank you for such a great post. It's nice to shift gears from the debates and silliness to read such a pleasant and descriptive account of the game. Bonus points for confirming something many of us know and many others refuse to believe, that Penny isn't the passive and inanimate coach as people try to make him out to be.

Watching live, I really liked J Lawson at the front of the press and trapping. Despite being a little slow still, his size and length makes it tough on smaller guards. Kennedy and McCadden were really solid in the first half and kept us around and then Davis and Deandre took over the second half. Davis is fun to watch in person, his ability to snake around defenders and finish is impressive. I thought it was clear the entire game we were the vastly superior team, it just took our studs a while to get going.
I cannot recall his name but #10 for Tulsa can play. I am not sure if there is any player in the country that hustles harder than him on the court. He was relentlessly up and down the court at full speed.
Dalger...
Thanks! I was ready to track that guy down after the game and offer him some NIL money to put on a Memphis jersey next season...

I believe he's attempting to explain that he sees everything as polar opposites and has no ability comprehend a spectrum. It's either black or white in his world view which actually explains quite a bit, or perhaps he didn't take his medication today.

Well, THAT'S disturbing.
It may be someone who went to Wooddale Jr. High back in the early 70s. Seems like we a bomb threat weekly.
