Darius McGee - Liberty basketball
This is a homer thread.

McGee is a 5th year, Covid extra year player for Liberty. I've watched this kid play his whole career. Here is an invite if you have ESPN+ to catch one of the remaining LU basketball games to watch him play. If you are old enough to remember Spud Webb and Muggsy Bogues, and enjoyed their play, then catch a LU game. Webb and Bogues were 5'7" and 5'3" and both played in the NBA. McGee at 5'9" has a trait the other two didn't. He's a 3 point specialist leading the nation in 3 points made: https://www.ncaa.com/stats/basketball-me...idual/621. He recently passed JJ Redick and Seth Curry on the NCAA 3 point made record.

It's fun to watch small guys make an impact. And when they lead their team like McGee, it makes it even more eventful. I just wish he had one more year to play as LU enters the CUSA. The consensus is this year he'll win his third straight ASun player of the year award. If you do watch, catch LU at home rather than an away game as their broadcast production is higher quality.

I watched the Southern Miss at Liberty game earlier this season. McGee is fun to watch... great quickness and also has a quick release on his shot.

He's matured so much as a player since his freshman year. He usually starts game attempting 3's. If they are hitting he keeps shooting. If not, he then drives to the basket for high percentage layups. The defense then plays off him giving more space for 3s. Not an easy task to guard. And having a 48" vertical leap at being 5'9" is an almost freakish physical skill. A very fun and exciting player to watch. I'm glad when I last lived in Lynchburg I got to see him play live.

He is a great player. I’m sure he’ll get some opportunities in the NBA.

He'll likely pass Karl Hess as the LU all time point leader tonight or the next game. Hess's record lasted I believe 30 years. We can expect McGee's to equal or surpass that longevity.
