I was wondering how Rice is doing in the indoor track season? How is Grace Forbes doing? Is her illness still a factor in her running?

RE: In Door Track and Cross Country
I talked to Coach Jim Bevan a bit at halftime last night. The women's team is doing well and could challenge for another conference team title or two (my guess is we'll be better outdoors than indoors with our throwers). They have a sprinter transfer from Stanford who already is posting really good times, and then outdoors you'll see the emergence of a freshman javelin thrower from South Africa who Coach thinks could challenge for a top 5 NCAA finish.

He said Grace Forbes is making some progress on getting healthy enough to run. But it sounds like it's a long process and it's just too early to say whether she can compete or not. It's such a shame because she's the best distance runner in school history and it's really a tragedy that she hasn't been able to compete this year for the most part. She was part of a big group of athletes who were recognized last night at half (along with the rest of the women's track, tennis and soccer teams).

The men had a very good pole vault last week from their senior - he went over 18 feet which is a mark which seems to separate the good vaulters from the really good vaulters (at least that used to be the case a few years back).

I hope Grace can come back next year if she needs this year to get stronger.
