A tip of my HUSKIE cap to college man 33 who saw in whatever majic fortune ball he
saw that the Huskies could beat the 35th ranked MBB team in the nation.

Keep it going and beat BSU. Go see these guys in person. They deserve a big crowd.
I understand DogFan is auctioning off his courtside seat to the first fan who can tell him the address and telephone number of the grotto. The contest will be 30 minutes before tipoff at the westside hotdog stand.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

RE: MBB golden Flashes at the Convo (wet or dry)
It was the most fun game I've seen at home in quite a while.

Even though much of the criticism is fair, I will say that Crump is pretty fearless. He didn't play much tonight, but he went against bigs who were much better than he is and he didn't back down.

I think Hunter might be my favorite. He isn't the flat out best, but he is the best/most quiet player out there. I am continually surprised at his point total when I look up at the scoreboard. He seems to hit his shots.

They played really well tonight. They really didn't look overwhelmed at any point. They stayed composed. Even when they had a positive, they didn't get too high.

It feels like this team is actually getting better as the season goes on. Granted, out of conference schedule was brutal. But they seem to be improving. That is something that didn't happen with the previous regime.

Did anybody notice Jim Christian on the Kent bench, as an assistant?

Really positive game tonight. Really good.

Probably #2 all-time win for me. Next to the 2020 win over the ranked buffalo squad.

The reason I felt NIU would win is currently Coit and for the past few games Hunter are making 10 three pointers amongst themselves. When you can make 10 plus 3’s a game you will be hard to beat no matter any other stat.

Nothing beats the 71-72 squad beating Bobby Knight and 5th ranked Indiana in the fieldhouse

RE: MBB golden Flashes at the Convo (wet or dry)
Yeah. Jim Bradley, Billy Harris and Jerry Zielinski were on that team. Tom Jorgensen was coach. Record of 21-4. The famous pre-season Sports Illustrated pic of Bradley in uniform, holding a basketball, standing in a cornfield (about where the Convo is now).

Whole bunch of highlights. The 85-71 win over Indiana (Bobby Knight was in his first season at IU, and vowed never to play again at Evans because he hated it that the seats -- and crowd -- went all the way down to the floor). An 11-game win streak. A bunch of NIU scoring of 100 and over. Bunch of sellouts. Midwestern Conference championship. Of course, NIU got shafted by the 25-team NCAA tournament and the NIT, despite being in the AP mid-major top 20.

(Sources: my recollection, but mostly NIU file article written by Mike Korcek, emeritus)

BUT ... for this team, now, a great win and hopefully a look at where it's all going. On to Ball State.

Incredible victory!

Love watching this team. They are FIGHTERS. Every time Kent made a run, they responded. Never got rattled. They made a lot of 3s, but making FTs and holding down the TOs were keys to the win.

Proud to be a Huskie!

Coit definitely has a level and track record at JUCO of being able to shoot like this. But Hunter is out of his mind right now. He's shooting with so much confidence.

As for the team, the fellas are IN SHAPE! We've got a pretty thin rotation right now. Basically 6 guys with a couple others mixing in.

The vast majority of minutes are from Coit, Nutter, Thorton, Crump, Ibarguen and Hunter. Konan is working back relatively slowly and guys like Plintauskas and Durosinmi play but not much.

To me it seems like Burno is going with the guys he trusts fully to win games and has the confidence the conditioning is at a point where these guys aren't going to run out of gas. This team pushes for 40 minutes. They push on defense and they push on offense. They never let up on their opponent and we see when that wears the other side out. They might be down but they keep coming at you forcing you to expend energy.

We're still missing two guys who would really help out (Russell and Williams). I've not heard anything official on either guy other than what gets posted here. I'm guessing Williams is out for the season and I have no reason to think otherwise. As for Russell, he was still wearing something on his hand last night. In the few instances were I had a decent look at it, it looks like a thumb injury which can be problematic regarding a quick return (which clearly he's been out for a while and doesn't appear to be close).

Either way, this team looks good right now. Whatever Burno emphasizes in practice is not only sticking with the guys, but their recent successes legitimize his message and can only enhance buy-in.

Thornton has looked much better the past couple of weeks. I wonder if he had a stint where he was falling behind Russell and he was either trying to do things he has no business doing or he just got down on himself and his role. But now that Russell has been out so long, this pushes the emphasis back on Kaleb and he's playing with both confidence and purpose and within his strengths. I've said it and I've said it and I've said it about him. If you're on the floor and you are even marginally open, you HAVE to be ready because he will find you. He had 11 assists last night to go along with 13 points. Arguably, Coit with 6 assists and 32 points was our player of the game but everything went through Thornton first and he delivered all night and was the catalyst for 35 points (obviously Coit contributed to 48 points). Btw, Coit is a much slicker passer than I anticipated. I figured he was an off guard who was a shoot first guy but he's made some ridiculously slick passes to the bigs off his drives.

It's weird, you never want to lose your best player but sometimes its the best for development because guys can no longer just stand back and let Keshawn (or Geno or whoever it is) save them over and over. Right now, Keshawn isn't stepping on the floor and all of the guys (not just Coit) have the confidence to be the guy in the moment.

Credit to Coach Burno and his staff.

RE: MBB golden Flashes at the Convo (wet or dry)
Btw, this is a bit of a tangent and I, in no way, want to detract from the win last night, but what the actual fvck was up with that ref calling all of those carries last night?

I hate those refs. Every single guy in college basketball carries the ball when they walk up the court and every so often, you run into a referee who decides its his mission in life to make himself the torch bearer on something that doesn't affect the game.

Is it technically a violation? Yes. Is it also done every single game by every single player making it an acceptable thing to do? Absolutely.

I thought Burno was going to fight that guy last night, he was so mad. Dude...this isn't about you.

Credit again to Burno and the fellas in not letting that petty ref get into their heads.
