Can A D1 Conference and A D2 Conference Merge?
I mean to come togther to cut the cost of travel down.

GSC and ASUN to merge since ASUN is in danger of losing more schools. Only school that I see stays in D2 is Shorter. It would give the conference enough schools to break from football and non-football schools like planned.

Football schools:
Austin Peay
UCA
UNA
EKU
Delta State
Mississippi College
West Alabama
West Georgia
West Florida
Valdosta State

It could open up a Louisianna Southland schools to join.

Non football:
Jacksonville
North Florida
FGCU
Stetson
UAH
Montevallo
Lee
Union
Lipscomb
Queens
Bellarmine
Christian Brothers

These could be future targets.
Florida Tech
Tampa
Nova Southeastern
St. Leo
Augusta
Columbus State
North Georgia
Barry
Lincoln Memorial
Francis Marion

North Florida could add football and join the football schools.

Southland, WAC, Summit, OVC, NEC, AEC etc all could do the same. Big West could merge with the all large public California schools which could bring in more LA and northern California for travels.

MEAC could get the CIAA to merge with them at the D1 level.

It could be endless ideas on how to save money in athletics.

RE: Can A D1 Conference and A D2 Conference Merge?
They could merge, and have combined admin, but they would still have to have separation for each division.

Like the old ECAC did

And for DI purposes, only two games (one for football) would officially count.

It really doesn't solve any of the ASun's issues.

D1 schools are in D1 for a reason. D2 schools are in D2 for a reason. Why on earth would they want to merge?

Christian Brothers has some of the worst facilities imaginable and less than 2000 enrolled students. I like the school since I am from Memphis, but they aren't Division 1 ready.

Everyone is D1 ready! You just need a big donor and an old stadium that hasn’t been used in 50 years. Bam! Money games vs Kentucky come rolling in!

Technically yes. Nothing is stopping a D1 conference from inviting up a complete D2 conference. The biggest question is what happens if they split like you said between football and non football schools. I doubt one conference gets a quick auto bid in sports.

RE: Can A D1 Conference and A D2 Conference Merge?
On a D1:D1 basis, we’ve seen a higher profile conference lose so many of its members that they’ve invited most or all of another league’s members in to replace them (American South and Sunbelt).

Theoretically, a D1 league could get in a tight spot and look to the D2 ranks for a conference to bail them out and keep them afloat. The problem would be with meeting minimum scheduling requirements while the newcomers work through the transition. It would probably take a waiver.

Because, might as well have fun while tv is sucking all it can out of realigning until 50 to 75% of college sports fans will disappear.

Then the P2 or 3 will find out the loss of interest will prompt the tv networks to decrease their tv contracts greatly. To the extent, when inflation also considered, that they too will fold or be reduced to something not important at all. Private entities will have formed and partnered with each other and create what amounts to minor league baseball or D-league nba.

So, David and others actually aren’t as ridiculous as the greedy bastards of reality.

CCSA, MPSF and Golden Coast Conference could come in handy if need be. They are already recognized conferences that could house an all sports conference. That was the plan with the ASUN with CCSA.

North Greenville is part of the Gulf South Conference. Would they be included? If they are, they aren't on the list.

The Middle Atlantic Conference was a multi-divisional conference.

Maybe UCA should join the WAC as a full member and give them 12 once NMSU & SHSU leaves. It would also give them 7 FB members. Give them solid ground to stand on and bring peace to the instability because I can't see UCA moving up to FBS. Or just rejoin the Southland even though they seem solid with 8 fb / 10 full members.

I recall this happened during a transition period years ago when the NCAA went from university and college divisions to Divisions I, II, III, or when Division I subdivided.

I can see if one or two Division II schools are considering a change to a different division.

Anything is possible, but this is like speculating if the moon and a block of cheese can merge.
