There are a couple of games I would surely like to have back but I also realize the transfers other than Davis had to have time to adjust to the higher level of play.
Penny probably coaches better when he doesn't have as many players to sub in.

Penny is learning more each year, but don't underestimate the addition of Frank Haith to this staff.

Isn't that par for the course for any successful head coach? They always try to hire the best assistants they can. Regarding Haith, I would say that Brown was the more skilled coach between the two.

Bingo!
He had a full roster at Bama and was only down 1 player at Auburn - and he held his own against 2 coaches people consider great.

RE: Penny’s coaching rating this year
He has done well overall, and is definitely improving.
My question is does he want to keep coaching? Now that his East players are finishing their college careers, will Penny still be motivated to coach?
It's a big personal decision for him.

He's not doing this for "his East players". That is such a distorted lens that it needs to be broken. He's doing this for all kids, his university, and for the sport.

It is my opinion that he will. He never won a championship in the NBA and had his career hampered with injury. Most likely he will not be inducted into the HOF. Sure, he has a gold medal, but Penny's a competitive guy. I believe he will want to bolster his legacy, and the perfect vehicle for that is through the Tigers.

Penny already has more money than most people will ever see in several lifetimes. Why would he stay if he didn't want to? He stuck it out as a middle school coach, then high school, and AAU when he was already a multi-millionaire and didn't need a job. Don't you think that implies he loves coaching?

RE: Penny’s coaching rating this year
One thing to note... Juwan Howard started out about the same time Penny did.
Talking heads used to rave about how good he was.
I watched part of their game last night.
The fact that they were 10-8 this year may have removed some of his luster...while Penny keeps 'chugging' along.
I believe he'll get the roster ratio right one of these days (x amount of guards, bigs etc) and adjust his strategy accordingly. It always seems like we are light on big men... I dunno maybe that's just me.
This year we're a bit deeper thanks to Lawson being here, ideally I'd like another big man or two. (I'm talking serviceable big man who can give quality minutes)

Davis last year or Duren this year. That's how close Penny was, with the NCAA breathing down our neck every single year. This will be the first class since we gave the finger to the NCAA. We have a really good class coming in, and we should have between 2-4 of our current roster come back.
I am predicting a talented, balanced roster for next year.

Imagine our team next year if the waiver voodoo for Williams comes to fruition and we get him back for a final season.

Agree with this. He's having a great year overall!
And I know some cannot handle anything other than fairy dust and rainbows being said about Penny. And there are others that can't find a positive thing to say about Penny. Reality is never all good or all bad. It's not black and white. There are shades of grey.
Penny has been a great recruiter, marketer, teacher since day 1. His in-game coaching improves CONSTANTLY! We're lucky to have Penny! GTG

RE: Penny’s coaching rating this year
Yesterday, ESPN.com had a link to an article with the headline: "Memphis, Kentucky, and 2023 recruiting". Penny's pretty elite at recruiting.
I think he needs a corps group to stay together for 3 years (say JLaw, Ashton, Ryan Forrest, and JJ Taylor) and build some consistency across recruiting classes. Unless we have a couple COVID super seniors come back next year, we aren't going to have any consistency with next year's group.

I have a feeling we're going to see at least a couple of returning players. There is even the possibility for Williams to return for one last season.

Dandridge Kao, Jayden, Jonathan and Chandler can come back for sure. I am also pretty sure that Kennedy can. With nobody added except the incoming class, we should be very solid.
IMO, the sleeper is Taylor, who I think is very undervalued at #71. On every other service he is ranked in the 60's. He seems to have a very complete game.

Looking at the remaining schedule think we will certainly beat Penny's win record of 22 wins.
How many more who knows?

It's a big personal decision for him.
I'm surprised no one has mentioned that he is most likely not going anywhere for another 4-5yrs with his 4* son, Ashton, committed to playing for the Tigers in 2023-24.
